Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of October 7, a leader of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lang Son province confirmed that the Bac Khe 1 hydroelectric dam in the area had just broken.
Initial information shows that this project encountered an incident at around 1 p.m. and directly affected the downstream area, including That Khe commune. Currently, the authorities have urgently notified all relevant communes and are implementing solutions and response plans to evacuate people to safety.
The leader of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lang Son province added that the authorities have stepped in, monitored the developments and mobilized forces to handle the situation. At the same time, he advised people not to spread unverified information to avoid causing panic in the community. "The leaders of Lang Son province have come directly to direct," he added.
Meanwhile, a leader of That Khe commune said that functional forces are being mobilized to ensure the safety of the people.
By about 2:30 p.m. on October 7, the rain had stopped in the area, but water continued to flow from upstream. It is known that the project has a capacity of 2.4 MW with a reservoir capacity of about 4 million cubic meters of water.
Previously, according to information from the Lang Son Province Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of the low pressure area (weakened from storm No. 11) combined with high-altitude wind convergence, from early morning to the night of October 7, areas in Lang Son province had heavy rain, some places had very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50-120mm, locally over 200mm of rain in some places.
