Apple will help prevent iPhone 16 Pro from overheating

According to PhoneArena , Apple is said to be addressing heat issues on the upcoming iPhone 16 series, most notably the company will be implementing measures to help the iPhone 16 Pro cool down.

Apple prefers graphene-based solutions over vapor chambers

Part of the heat issues seen on the previous iPhone 15 Pro may have been due to the use of titanium in their casings, which are less thermally conductive than steel, said TF International analyst Ming-chi Kuo.

Taking a lesson from Apple, Samsung has made a change to the new Galaxy S24 Ultra to compensate for the extra heat the phone can generate due to the use of titanium. Specifically, to help dissipate heat better, Samsung increased the size of the vapor chamber used on the Galaxy S24 Ultra to 92% of the size of the vapor chamber inside the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

While Kuo said Apple could use a vapor chamber design in future iPhone models, that doesn't seem to be the case, or at least not in the iPhone 16 Pro. That's because the vapor chamber is designed to draw heat away from the phone's processor, where it can do a lot of damage. The vapor chamber is a flat metal box that holds liquid inside. As the phone heats up internally, the liquid turns to gas, cools, and condenses. A secondary channel returns the liquid to its original heat source.

However, some recent sources said that Apple has two other options to solve the iPhone 16 Pro's overheating problem. Specifically, the company will use a metal shell for the battery on the iPhone 16 Pro line or a graphene material layer attached to the phone's processing chip, which helps move heat away from the chip and dissipate heat more effectively than the graphite sheets currently used.

Apple appears to favor the graphene solution over the vapor chamber because it wouldn’t add any weight to the iPhone 16 Pro models. Regardless of whether Apple uses graphene or adds a vapor chamber, the goal will be the same: keeping the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max from overheating.
