On October 12, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said that the unit coordinated with local authorities and people to capture two pig-tailed macaques, one of which had bitten two people in Hoc Mon commune.
Initial information, on October 10, after receiving news of an escaped monkey in Hamlet 11 (Hoc Mon Commune), the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department coordinated with local authorities and people to capture the monkey.
The rangers shot an anesthetic and captured the monkey, taking it in for care and raising according to regulations. Initially, the rangers determined that it was a pig-tailed macaque, weighing about 8kg. Before being captured, the monkey had bitten two people.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, the leader of the Economic Department of Hoc Mon commune said that the monkey was raised at home and escaped from its cage. The two people who were bitten by the monkey have been vaccinated.
On the same day, October 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department also coordinated to capture a monkey that was causing trouble for people's houses on Bui Thi Diet Street (Nhuan Duc Commune). The monkey was shot and tranquilized by forest rangers and then captured. It was identified as a pig-tailed macaque, weighing about 5kg.
Pig-tailed macaque, scientific name Macaca leonina , belongs to group IIB in the list of endangered, precious and rare species according to Circular 27/2025/TT-BNNMT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .
