The event is part of the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019–2030 period (VNEEP 3). This year, the national program marks the halfway point of the program implementation, while contributing to the implementation of green growth and sustainable development goals and the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 that Vietnam made at the COP 26, COP 27 and COP 28 Conferences on Climate Change.
Overview of the training session.
According to a survey by the VNEEP 3 program, the potential for energy saving in Vietnam is still very large, especially in the industrial sector - which accounts for over 50% of the total national energy consumption. If we only consider the more than 3,000 key energy-using facilities nationwide, with an electricity consumption of more than 80 billion kWh/year, just saving at least 2% of electricity each year will help save about 1.6 billion kWh, equivalent to more than 3,200 billion VND in annual electricity costs.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Industry and Trade Newspaper, spoke at the training session.
On June 18, 2025, the National Assembly officially passed the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, effective from January 1, 2026. The amended Law supplements many new regulations, affirming the important role of energy saving in socio -economic development and ensuring national energy security.
At the training session, reporters and editors will be updated with new policies and laws on energy saving; overview of the results of the implementation of the VNEEP 3 program in recent times; and exchange journalism skills in the energy field, including how to exploit and use technical terms, build stories and new perspectives to approach readers.

Specifically, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hiep, Chairman of the Association for Science and Technology on Energy Saving and Efficiency, shared and updated the main contents of the VNEEP 3 program and new points in the revised Law on Energy Saving and Efficiency. Through the program, the Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes that the team of reporters and editors will become strong communication bridges, bringing authentic, scientific and close information on economical and efficient energy use to the business community, people and socio-political organizations, contributing to changing awareness, forming energy-saving habits, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring national energy security.
Also within the framework of the training session, reporters and editors from the Southern region will visit and learn about the Scada Center, Remote Control Center and Customer Care Center of EVNSPC, where modern power operation technology is contributing to energy saving every day.
