2nd ASEAN + China Sports Ministers Meeting: Expanding Cooperation, Promoting Mutual Understanding and Friendship among Peoples

On the afternoon of October 17, the 2nd ASEAN + China Sports Ministers Meeting took place. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong co-chaired with Mr. Li Jing, Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Sport of China.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that the event is an important forum to evaluate the results of cooperation between ASEAN and China in recent times, and is also an opportunity to share experiences and discuss cooperation directions in the coming period, aiming to further promote the role of sports in enhancing people-to-people exchanges, developing dialogue relations, towards peace , friendship and prosperity.

Co-chairing the Conference, Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Sport of China emphasized that sports cooperation is an important part of people-to-people exchanges and friendly relations between the two sides. Based on the cooperation mechanism established over many years, it helps China and ASEAN countries to smoothly implement traditional sports projects, events and activities. This has received the welcome of the sports community and people of ASEAN countries, further tightening the traditional friendship, opening up prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides.

Presenting his opinion at the Conference, on behalf of the host country, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that as an active member of ASEAN, Vietnam always attaches importance to and strongly supports sports cooperation between ASEAN and China, and pledged to continue to closely coordinate with ASEAN member countries and China to effectively implement cooperation initiatives, towards building an open, creative, open and sustainably developed ASEAN regional sports space.

To further promote the achieved results, on behalf of ASEAN member countries, Vietnam proposes a number of specific cooperation orientations and initiatives between ASEAN and China in the coming time.

ASEAN member countries share opinions

Specifically, it is proposed that China will actively consider and discuss with ASEAN the cooperation program to exchange and restore traditional games and sports as an intangible cultural heritage; Consider the possibility of coordinating the organization of the ASEAN-China Traditional Sports Festival, creating a playground and forum for traditional sports of ASEAN countries and China, contributing to promoting the cultural values ​​and identities of member countries in this cooperation mechanism.

Towards establishing an ASEAN-China Sports Scholarship Program for students, young coaches and sports administrators of ASEAN countries.

Coordinate the organization of the ASEAN-China Youth Sports Forum, combining friendly competitions and cultural activities; launch the "ASEAN-China Sports Day" to encourage people to participate in physical training; Promote cooperation in sports for the disabled, sports for women and girls, and sports for the elderly through Tai Chi - towards the goal of "Leaving No One Behind".
