VietNamNetVietNamNet20/12/2018

The location where the strange object was discovered was about 4 nautical miles from the coast. Mr. Thanh brought the strange object to Mai Nha islet area, more than 1.2 nautical miles from Phuoc Dong coast, anchored the object and reported the incident to the authorities.

An Hai Border Guard Station sent forces to coordinate with local fishermen to safely tow the strange object to the shore of Phuoc Dong village at around 10:00 a.m. the same day (photo).

The strange object looked like a new torpedo, 6.8 m long, 54 cm in diameter, with an orange head, black body and a propeller system attached to the tail. There were Chinese characters on the strange object.

That same evening, Mr. Bui Van Thanh, Chairman of Tuy An District People's Committee, said that the military weapons officers of Naval Region 4 Command had come to receive the strange object and initially determined that it could be a foreign navy's training torpedo.

Although the strange object has Chinese writing on it, authorities have not been able to confirm which country's navy this is a training torpedo.

Speaking with Thanh Nien reporters, a source also confirmed that the Navy Region 4 Command sent a specialized vehicle to Phu Yen to receive the strange object and will conduct inspection and analysis.

Also on the evening of December 19, Colonel Nguyen Van Minh, Commander of the Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard Command, confirmed that the Phu Yen border guard force had handed over the above strange object to the navy for handling.
