In the past 9 months, nearly 1,000 hectares of forest were damaged nationwide (down 31% over the same period last year); in the third quarter of 2025 alone, the damaged forest area accounted for 134.5 hectares.
According to the report of the Ministry of Finance serving the regular Government Press Conference held this afternoon, October 5, in the past 9 months (from the beginning of 2025 to present), the whole country had 998.3 hectares of damaged forest (down 31%) compared to the same period last year.
Of which, 683.6 hectares of forest were cut down and destroyed (down 3.1% over the same period last year); 314.7 hectares of forest were burned (down 57.5% over the same period).
In the third quarter of 2025 alone, according to the Ministry of Finance's report, the total damaged forest area nationwide accounted for 134.5 hectares (down 23%). Of which, the forest area was cut down and destroyed by 109.1 hectares; the forest area burned was 25.4 hectares (down 33.1%).
Also in the third quarter, the area of newly planted concentrated forests was estimated at 71.2 thousand hectares (up 0.8% over the same period last year); the number of scattered forestry trees was 21.5 million (down 0.5%); the output of exploited timber was estimated at 6,703.6 thousand m3 (up 6.9%).
Previously, sharing at the Conference on assessing sustainable forest management and forest certification, which took place on October 2, Mr. Nguyen Van Dien - Deputy Director of the Department of Forestry and Forest Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), said that recently, Vietnam's wood and forest product export turnover has continuously increased rapidly and reached 17.35 billion USD in 2024, contributing significantly to the export achievements of the agricultural sector and the whole country.
Sustainable forest management has also contributed to creating jobs and increasing income for more than 500,000 direct workers in wood processing enterprises; millions of households participate in forest planting activities.
However, Mr. Dien also noted that although important results have been achieved in implementing sustainable forest management and forest certification, up to now, the forest area of the organization that has developed a sustainable forest management plan has only reached more than 70%; the forest area that has been granted sustainable forest management certificates (PEFC and FSC) has only reached about 15% of the production forest area.
More importantly, according to Mr. Dien, Vietnam's forests are still facing many challenges such as deforestation, forest degradation, conversion of forests to agricultural production, and forest fires due to increased extreme weather events./.
