At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on October 6, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said that despite being adversely affected by natural disasters such as storms, floods and epidemics in livestock farming, the industry still achieved outstanding results in the first 9 months of this year with a growth rate of 3.83%.
Up to now, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports have also achieved good results with 52.31 billion USD, up 14% over the same period in 2024. Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery trade balance in the first 9 months of 2025 is estimated to reach a surplus of 15.93 billion USD, up 17.6% over the same period last year. Exports have increased well, especially the trade surplus has grown quite well, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien shared.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien calculated: “If each remaining month of 2025 exports reach 5 billion USD, then agricultural and forestry exports in 2025 will reach 67 billion USD - a new record. If each month exports reach 6 billion USD like last September, this record will be higher, with over 70 billion USD.”
Mr. Tran Gia Long, Deputy Director of the Planning and Finance Department, added that over the past 9 months, rice production reached 34.8 million tons, equivalent to the same period last year. In the livestock sector, pig farming was affected by the complicated developments of African swine fever; poultry farming increased quite well due to relatively favorable production conditions, well-controlled epidemics, no major outbreaks of poultry diseases, and stable product prices. It is estimated that by the end of September 2025, the country's pig herd will decrease by about 0.6% compared to the same period last year, with an estimated output of live poultry meat of 4.038 million tons, an increase of 4.6%; poultry herd will increase by 3.7%, with an estimated output of live poultry meat of 1.926 million tons, an increase of 5.6%.
The work of planting new forests, caring for and protecting forests has achieved positive results. In particular, the output of exploited timber is estimated at nearly 18 million m3, an increase of 8.7%. Aquaculture activities have remained stable, aquaculture facilities have promoted super-intensive and intensive farming models, so the results of aquaculture production in the whole country have developed quite well. Aquaculture output in the first 9 months is estimated at 7.262 million tons, an increase of 3.2% over the same period last year.
Regarding the issue of restoring production after epidemics, natural disasters and ensuring food supply for Tet and the end of the year, Mr. Phan Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that meat, egg and milk production have all increased, while the total pig herd has slightly decreased due to African swine fever. However, up to this point, the epidemic has been controlled, with only 5 provinces and cities having African swine fever. Localities are actively re-herding to prepare food supply for the end of the year. In the near future, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine will hold a conference on this issue.
Regarding agricultural production, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said that storms and floods have affected an estimated total crop area of 96,452 hectares in the North and North Central regions; including 40,405 hectares of rice, 23,185 hectares of vegetables, 3,738 hectares of fruit trees and 29,134 hectares of industrial and other perennial crops.
In the Northern and North Central regions alone, out of a total of about 1.1 million hectares of Summer-Autumn rice, about 40,000 hectares were affected by storms and rains, which did not cause total loss but affected productivity and harvest progress. Up to now, the North Central region has harvested about 87% of the area, expected to be completed in the first half of October, while the North has only harvested about 47% and will basically complete by the end of October.
