At the age of nearly 70, Andy Lau, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Hong Kong cinema, still maintains a balanced figure. To become an ideal model of health in the entertainment industry, he pays great attention to his diet.

Vegetarian for 10 years

Andy Lau has been a vegetarian for 10 years, since 2013. The actor shared that his favorite vegetarian dishes are mushroom soup, vermicelli, stir-fried yam with mushrooms, steamed pumpkin with chestnuts, and stewed bamboo shoots.

He switched to this diet to accommodate his wife Carol Chu and 8-year-old daughter Hanna. Andy Lau once shared that he "felt strange being the only one in the family who ate meat".

The actor also revealed that he abstains from starch and sugar, switching from white rice to brown rice. Because this diet often makes dieters hungry quickly, he eats 6 eggs a day to ensure he has enough protein.

For breakfast, Andy Lau usually eats yogurt mixed with oatmeal, and drinks a cup of warm milk for extra nutrition. Since he is not a vegetarian, sometimes, when he needs more energy, the actor eats a little chicken with cereal for lunch. In the evening, he eats brown rice and whole grains. He also drinks fruit juice every day to replenish his body with water.

No cold water for 30 years

Andy Lau said he has never drunk ice cold water or water that is too hot in the past 30 years, only using warm water. Even when the temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius, the actor is loyal to hot coffee and milk tea. According to him, this habit helps blood circulation and reduces aging.

According to experts, drinking a lot of cold water on hot days can create mucus in the body, weaken the immune system, and cause fat accumulation.

According to Dr. Lin Rongzhi, Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University of Medicine, drinking ice water can cause cold hands and feet, leading to vasoconstriction, reducing blood circulation and increasing the risk of heart failure.

In addition to his regular eating habits, Andy Lau often works out at home. When filming, in his spare time, he uses the equipment on set to lift weights. Before performances, he also runs and exercises.
