Police referee Vietnam women's team's historic match at World Cup

FIFA has recently announced the referee team for the match between the Vietnam Women's Team and the US Women's Team on July 22. Specifically, the main referee will be Ms. Bouchra Karboubi, along with 2 assistants, Fatiha Jermoumi and Soukaina Hamdi, both from Morocco. The 4th referee will be Ms. Ivana Martincic from Costa Rica.

Of all the names mentioned, Bouchra Karboubi is the most notable. The 35-year-old referee is an iconic figure in the fight for gender equality in her country.

In May 2022, she became the first female referee to officiate the Moroccan Cup final (between Moghreb Atletico and AS FAR). This is considered a historic event in Moroccan football. Bouchra Karboubi graduated from the national referee training course in Morocco in 2007. She became an international referee in 2016. Two years later, she participated in the African Women's Championship.

In 2020, Bouchra Karboubi refereed a men's football match for the first time in the National Championship. At the CAN 2022 final between Senegal and Egypt, she was part of the referee team.

In addition to her work as a referee, Mrs. Bouchra Karboubi is also a police officer in Meknes province. On the field as well as in real life, Mrs. Karboubi always shows a strong, decisive and brave image in the face of difficulties.

Sharing about her career, Ms. Bouchra Karboubi said: "I had a dream of being a police officer since I was a child. When I was asked about my desired job, the answer was always "I want to be a police officer". I am very happy that I can fulfill my childhood dream and at the same time build a career as a referee".
