Details of Yamaha Tricera - "high-end" 3-wheeled car, steering on all 3 wheels

Yamaha's latest experimental car, called Tricera, is not only unique for its Y-shaped 3-wheel design, but also has the ability to steer all 3 wheels.

Yamaha also regularly creates concept cars or experimental cars - often displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show (now the Tokyo Motor Show). In Tokyo this year, the company returned with a brand new three-wheeled Yamaha Tricera.

Called the Tricera, the project was first introduced three years ago as a sleek concept. The design of the three-wheeler has been refined since then and now looks much more suitable for real-world road use. However, Yamaha has not confirmed any plans to produce the Tricera.

The Tricera’s design has some similarities to Yamaha’s current motorcycles, including the round headlight and two small DRLs running across the front fascia. It also has a complex nose like the MT-series naked bikes and small panels on the front wheel.

Yamaha later added a pair of small front spoilers and a set of small rearview mirrors to the Tricera, which were not present on the original concept.

The interior now looks more finished, with dark red seats, a yellow steering wheel and shift paddles. The Tricera is powered by an electric motor, although it’s unclear how much power it has or how big the battery is.

What's special about that bike is that Yamaha developed a three-wheel steering system, aiming to achieve "a whole new level of unity" between bike and rider.

It seems that the single rear wheel of this new 3-wheel Yamaha Tricera will steer in the opposite direction to the front wheel to help the Tricera "hug" corners more easily and precisely.

Yamaha also equipped the bike with an adaptive sound system that can change the tone of the electric powertrain, adding a layer of tactile experience that electric bikes typically don't have.
