President Luong Cuong hosts reception to celebrate 80th anniversary of Vietnam National Day in the United States

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States, on the evening of September 22 local time, in New York, President Luong Cuong and his wife chaired a solemn reception to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Also attending the reception were Party Central Committee Secretary and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son; members of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation accompanying the President; Ambassadors, Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies in the United States and their spouses; and Vietnamese veterans.

On the guest side, there were representatives of UN leaders, leaders and heads of delegations from many countries attending the UN high-level week, along with Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations of countries to the UN; representatives of the US government, Congress , famous scholars, large businesses; veterans and progressive friends of the US; as well as representatives of the Vietnamese community in the US.

In his welcome speech, President Luong Cuong stated that 80 years ago, on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly announcing to the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era, an era of independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people.

The President affirmed that with the indomitable will, confidence, creativity and high solidarity of the entire nation, Vietnam has overcome countless difficulties and challenges, steadfastly fought to maintain independence, freedom, national unity and moved towards socialism, for the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.

The President emphasized that, overcoming the pain and great losses caused by war, siege and embargo; continuing the thousand-year tradition of the nation's civilization, with courage, altruism and peace, Vietnam has made constant efforts in the journey of reconciliation, healing, cooperation and development; turning the ruins of war into development; turning differences into healing and national unity.

Sharing about the great achievements that Vietnam has made in the past decades, the President affirmed that entering a new era, with new spirit and new determination, Vietnam today is a friendly, dynamic and friendly destination in the Asia-Pacific region; a reliable and responsible partner of the international community for sustainable peace.

Assessing Vietnam's relations with the UN and the US, the President said that for the UN, it is a vivid example of cooperation and companionship; while for the US, it is a testament to the spirit of putting the past behind, overcoming differences, and looking towards the future to now become a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, based on sincere understanding and mutual respect.

The President expressed his gratitude to the American friends and people, as well as peace-loving friends and people around the world who have wholeheartedly supported the just cause of the Vietnamese people and made important contributions to the development of Vietnam-US relations.

On the other hand, the President emphasized that this achievement also had valuable contributions from the Vietnamese community across five continents, including the Vietnamese community in the United States; affirming that Vietnamese people, no matter where they are, are all "children of Lac and grandchildren of Hong", an inseparable part of the Vietnamese family.

The President believes that the Vietnamese community in the United States will continue to be "ambassadors of friendship" connecting Vietnam with the United States and international friends, fostering great national unity, and moving towards a bright future for the Vietnamese people.

The President affirmed that in a volatile world, Vietnam will always firmly support multilateralism, the UN Charter and international law, resolve disputes and disagreements by peaceful means, and always resolutely protect national interests.

Deeply aware that the future and destiny of nations and peoples are always closely linked, the President emphasized that Vietnam is determined to consolidate and deepen friendly relations and cooperation with countries and partners around the world, making positive contributions to world politics, the global economy, and human civilization; joining hands with international friends to create an environment of peace, stability and sustainable development for all nations.

In his congratulatory speech to Vietnam on this important event, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu stated that over the past eight decades, Vietnam has risen from the yoke of colonial rule to become a modern, prosperous country as it is today; based on a long history and rich cultural traditions; and today Vietnam has become a modern, dynamic society and a leading country in the region.

Ms. Nakamitsu affirmed that the Vietnamese people have charted their own path, a path of true independence, and Vietnam has the right to be proud of its achievements, even though the road to success has not been easy.

Ms. Nakamitsu highly appreciated Vietnam's commitments to the UN and the UN Charter on the basis of the principles of multilateralism, peaceful resolution of conflicts, cooperation, sustainable development and equality, thereby demonstrating Vietnam's position and role in the international community.
