National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife begin official visit to Singapore

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will hold talks and meetings with Singapore's top leaders and receive leading Singaporean corporations investing and doing business in Vietnam.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, at 3:15 p.m. local time (2:15 p.m. Hanoi time) on December 1, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, along with a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly, arrived in the capital of Singapore, beginning an official visit to the Republic of Singapore.

Welcoming the delegation at Singapore Changi Airport in the capital city of Singapore were: MP Wan Rizal, member of the Singapore-Southeast Asia Friendship Parliamentary Group; Director General of the Southeast Asia Department 2 - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore Loy Hui Chen, officials of the Singaporean Parliament, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung, and officials of the Embassy.

Singapore is Vietnam's leading important partner in the region. After more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2024) and more than 10 years of establishing a strategic partnership (2013-2024), Vietnam-Singapore relations have continuously developed, reaching many important milestones in all fields, through Party, National Assembly, Government channels and people-to-people exchanges.

The relationship between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Singaporean National Assembly has continued to be maintained and developed well over the years on both bilateral and multilateral levels.

During the visit to Vietnam of former Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin (May 2022), the two sides signed a Cooperation Agreement between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and Singapore, creating a solid foundation to further promote cooperation between the two Parliaments.

Recently, within the framework of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45) in Laos (October 2024), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a bilateral meeting with Singaporean National Assembly Chairman Seah Kian Peng; discussed bilateral cooperation in all channels, fields and the two legislative bodies; agreed to strengthen cooperation, increase exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels, and coordinate to support each other's stance at regional and international multilateral forums.

In addition, the exchange activities between parliamentarians, young parliamentarians, and female parliamentarians of the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Singaporean National Assembly have made practical contributions to promoting relations between the two legislative bodies, thereby creating momentum to spread and bring the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Partnership into greater depth and substance.

During the visit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is expected to hold talks and meetings with Singapore's top leaders; meet with leading Singaporean corporations investing and doing business in Vietnam; visit the Embassy and meet with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Singapore.

The official visit to Singapore by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is of special significance to realize Vietnam's foreign policy, promote parliamentary cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Singaporean National Assembly in a practical and sustainable manner, thereby contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership, consolidating the friendship and effective and substantive cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore in all fields./.
