BMW owners in Da Nang learn from Thai Nguyen people, tightly wrap their cars before the storm

Before storm No. 12 made landfall, Da Nang residents proactively moved their cars and motorbikes to safe locations to avoid flooding and damage. Some families even covered their cars with tarpaulins in the hope that “wherever the water rises, the car will float.”

On the morning of October 22, before storm No. 12 Fengshen made landfall, in many areas of Da Nang , people proactively moved their vehicles to higher locations to avoid flooding and damage.

Learning from previous incidents of cars being hit by falling trees, broken windows, or flooded by falling objects, many people have moved their cars and motorbikes to high, open areas.

On Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, many people brought their cars onto the sidewalk to avoid flooding due to heavy rain when the storm hit.

At 29/3 Park, the vacant lot was also filled with people's cars parked to avoid the storm.

On Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal road, many people proactively bring their cars onto the sidewalk, choosing empty spaces without trees to temporarily park, avoiding storms and flooding.

In Son Tra ward – an area with many social housing and commercial apartments – hundreds of households also quickly moved their vehicles to temporary parking lots and parks near their homes.

In addition, dozens of other cars were moved under Thuan Phuoc Bridge, which is considered a safe place to avoid flooding. Parking lots and open spaces with high terrain were all full this morning.

Da Nang residents bring their cars to the foot of Thuan Phuoc bridge to avoid the storm.

On the ground floor of residential houses and apartments, many people have packed their motorbikes into wind-proof corridors, carefully tying down their belongings to prevent water from overflowing and strong winds. At Hoa Khanh apartment building (Lien Chieu ward), hundreds of motorbikes have been moved from the basement to the corridors of the upper floors.

At this time, Da Nang has had heavy rains in waves, with strong winds in coastal areas. Mr. Nguyen Huy, residing on Ton Dan Street, an area that is often flooded during heavy rains, said: "I proactively moved my car to the administrative area to avoid being submerged when the storm hit. In previous rains, the area was low, many people could not move their cars in time, so they were damaged and had to call for rescue. Hearing that this storm would rain continuously, I moved my car early for peace of mind."

People of Hoa Khanh apartment complex bring their cars to the hallway.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Thanh Nguyen, living on Me Nhu Street (Thanh Khe Ward), said he bought a 6x12m tarpaulin for 500,000 VND at a construction materials store to "cover" his car to prevent flooding.

“I learned from the experience of Thai Nguyen people during the recent flood: spread a tarpaulin on the ground, drive the BMW on it, cover it completely and secure it with rope. If water comes in, the tarpaulin will help the car float, avoiding water from entering the engine. This method is manual but effective when the water rises,” said Mr. Nguyen.

According to forecasts, storm No. 12 will cause very heavy rain in Da Nang, with the risk of deep flooding in many low-lying residential areas. The city government recommends that people proactively protect their property, move their vehicles to safe places, and limit going out when there are strong winds and heavy rain.

Previously, during the big flood in October 2022, many streets in Da Nang were heavily flooded, hundreds of cars could not move in time and were submerged in water, stalling en masse, causing great damage to people.
