CAHN Club missed a penalty because of VAR
After a 1-2 defeat against Pathum United, Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club) is under pressure to win the match against Dynamic Herb Cebu in the second round, taking place on the evening of September 24 at Hang Day Stadium. Cebu also lost 1-3 to Tampines Rovers in the opening round, so they need to win to keep their hopes of advancing.
With a superior force, notably 5 foreign players (Hugo Gomes, Vitao, Stefan Mauk, Leo Artur, Rogerio Alves) and 2 overseas Vietnamese (Nguyen Filip, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh), CAHN Club pushed forward to dominate the game.

However, the young representative of the Philippines was not easily defeated. Cebu pressed well in the midfield, forcing CAHN Club to push the ball out to the wing to cross for opportunities. However, with a tall defense, the away team's defenders did a good job of neutralizing the crosses, not giving striker Rogerio Alves a chance.
On the other hand, Cebu mainly played counter-attacks, sending long balls into the gaps left by CAHN's defense when they advanced. Although they did not attack much, the away team still put Nguyen Filip's goal in danger a few times.
The attack was deadlocked, but CAHN Club was unexpectedly "given a gift" by the opponent in the 42nd minute. The Cebu midfielder's regrettable loss of the ball created an opportunity for Rogerio Alves to face the goal, but with the goal wide open, CAHN Club's foreign player kicked the ball out.

In the 45th minute, while rushing to block Stefan Mauk's pass, the Cebu defender let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area.
The referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. However, after consulting with VAR, the referee reviewed the slow-motion replay and concluded that the away team's defender let the ball slip through his hand in a natural position (when tackling defensively), thus canceling the penalty awarded to CAHN Club.
All-out attack
The 0-0 score and lackluster play after the first 45 minutes forced CAHN Club to put pressure right at the beginning of the second half.
Coach Alexandre Polking's students pressed the two wings more thoroughly, with continuous crosses directed into the penalty area for "poles" like Rogerio Alves, Hugo Gomes, Alan Grafite and Dinh Bac to head.
In the 60th minute, the Cebu defense let Rogerio run in, but the away team's goalkeeper cleared the danger. Gomes immediately rushed in to finish, but the ball unfortunately went wide. In the 63rd minute, Vitao escaped to receive Dinh Trong's through ball and then crossed it back to the second line. Dinh Bac fired a low shot but could not beat the Cebu goalkeeper. The ball bounced right to where Van Do had chosen, however, the CAHN midfielder's diagonal shot went wide.
CAHN Club increased the pressure in the final minutes. In the 70th minute, Van Do's free kick went over the wall but was not difficult enough to beat the Cebu goalkeeper.
CAHN Club's efforts were rewarded with an emotional late goal by Cao Pendant Quang Vinh. From a cross from the right wing, Quang Vinh took advantage of the chaos in the Cebu penalty area to rush in and finish close to the goal, sealing a thrilling 1-0 victory for CAHN Club. Quang Vinh was also voted the best player of the match.
Defeating Cebu, CAHN Club has the first 3 points at ASEAN Club Championship. The runner-up team temporarily rose to third place in Group A.
