'Having people means having everything'

President Ho Chi Minh always affirmed: Great national unity is a matter of strategic significance, deciding the success of the revolution. For the revolution to succeed, there must be a strong enough force to defeat the enemy and build a new society. Building domestic forces plays a decisive role: "To liberate ourselves". According to him, to have forces, there must be unity because "Unity is an invincible force". Therefore, President Ho Chi Minh advocated broad, close and long-term unity of the entire nation into a unified block.

Ho Chi Minh's thought on great national unity has strategic significance. It is a fundamental, consistent thought throughout the revolutionary process. It is a strategy to gather all possible forces to form the great strength of the entire nation in the struggle against the enemy and to build a new society. Therefore, President Ho advised all party members and cadres, especially those assigned to do Mass Mobilization - Front work, to achieve great national unity, they must inherit the tradition of patriotism and humanity of their ancestors, and must have tolerance and generosity towards people.

"I advise my fellow countrymen to unite closely and broadly; the five fingers of the hand have short and long fingers. But short and long are all combined in the palm of the hand. Among tens of millions of people, there are people like this and people like that, but like this or like that, they are all descendants of our ancestors. Therefore, we must be lenient and generous; we must admit that: As children of Lac and descendants of Hong, everyone has more or less patriotism. For our fellow countrymen who have lost their way and gone astray, we must use our affection to influence them. Only then can we achieve unity, and with unity, the future will certainly be glorious."

President Ho Chi Minh's tolerance and generosity attracted many intellectuals, landlords, merchants, national bourgeoisie, overseas Vietnamese, religious dignitaries, and representatives of various ethnic groups to come to him and follow him in the resistance war against both French colonialists and American imperialists until the day of total victory.

A great initiative and at the same time a great contribution of President Ho Chi Minh and our Party to our nation and to oppressed peoples in the world was the proposal to establish the National United Front. On November 18, 1930, the Central Party Standing Committee issued a Directive to establish the Anti-Imperialist Alliance - the first organizational form of the Vietnam National United Front.

94 years have passed since the Anti-Imperialist Alliance was founded, under the correct leadership of the Party, organizational forms with different names have been born one after another, meeting the requirements and tasks of each revolutionary period. These are the Indochinese Democratic Front (1936-1938), the Indochinese National United Anti-Imperialist Front (1939), the Viet Minh Front (1941), the Vietnam National United Association (1946), the Lien Viet Front (1951), the Vietnam Fatherland Front (1955), the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (1960), the Alliance of Vietnamese National, Democratic and Peace Forces (1968), the Vietnam Fatherland Front (1977). Time will pass, but the glorious history of the National United Front will forever be associated with the glorious history of the Party and the nation.

Those were the victories of the August Revolution (1945), the Dien Bien Phu victory (1954), the great Spring victory (1975), and very important achievements in the renovation process that brought our country out of the socio-economic crisis, and brought our people firmly onto the path of socialism with the affirmation that "Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today."

The Vietnam National United Front was born at the initiative of President Ho Chi Minh, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and has made great contributions to the cause of great national unity, a factor ensuring the victory of the Vietnamese revolution, contributing to creating new milestones in the history of the nation.

Thoroughly imbued with Ho Chi Minh's thought on great national unity, the Vietnam Fatherland Front today advocates promoting the tradition of patriotism, national pride, the will to self-reliance and self-strengthening, uniting all Vietnamese people at home and abroad, regardless of social class, ethnicity, religion, belief, past, ideology and political views, as long as they support the renovation process with the goal of maintaining independence, unity, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, successfully carrying out the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country for a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization, implementing President Ho Chi Minh's Testament: "Building a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and prosperous Vietnam", actively contributing to the cause of peace, democracy and social progress in the world.

Based on the functions and tasks defined in the Platform for national construction during the transition period to Socialism (supplemented and developed), in the 2013 Constitution and the Law on the Vietnam Fatherland Front, in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, based on the international context and the domestic situation as well as the urgent requirements of the people, on the basis of the achieved results and the limitations and weaknesses over the past 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (term 2019-2024), the 10th National Congress of Delegates, the Vietnam Fatherland Front focuses on discussing solutions to perform well the core political role of implementing the great national unity at a new height and new depth so that the people can truly take control of the specific tasks:

Firstly, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels needs to continue to promote propaganda work to raise awareness of the entire political system as well as the entire population about the tradition of patriotism, national spirit, tradition of great national solidarity, the position, role and importance of the strength of the great national solidarity bloc in building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

Second, strengthen coordination between the Front and authorities at all levels in promoting people's mastery, in participating in Party building, and in building a clean and strong political system.

Third, continue to promote the people's initiative, creativity, material and spiritual strength through patriotic emulation movements, aiming to build a prosperous and happy life for families and a prosperous and strong society.

Fourth, closely coordinate with authorities at all levels to effectively implement the Party's directives and resolutions, the State's policies and laws on ethnicity and religion; promote the role of exemplary people of ethnic groups and religions in the movement to mobilize ethnic and religious compatriots to effectively implement the Party and State's guidelines, policies and laws, actively participate in patriotic emulation movements, and refute the erroneous arguments of hostile forces that aim to divide the great national unity bloc.

Fifth, innovate the organization, apparatus, content and methods of operation, enhance the responsibility of the Front's staff and socio-political organizations, focusing on the grassroots and residential areas. Perform well the role of social supervision and criticism; improve the quality, democratic consultation, coordination and unity of action among member organizations.

And deeply understand President Ho's teaching: "Having people means having everything."

To turn the action programs proposed by the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front into reality requires the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels to be proactive, creative, and proactive in coordinating with the authorities at the same level, taking advantage of the direction of the Party Committees, and propagating and mobilizing the entire population to participate.
