Celebrating Vietnam Education Promotion Day October 2: A family of studious people

For many years, the Do family has been considered a bright spot in the province’s movement to encourage learning and talent. The family’s studious spirit has been preserved and promoted through each generation, contributing to building a learning society in the locality.

Family example

On a weekend morning, Mr. Do Thanh Binh's small house (Nam Nha Trang ward) was bustling with a meeting of family members and clans. After asking and giving instructions on the children's studies, Mr. Binh turned to discussing the organization of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Do clan council in Khanh Hoa area at the end of October. At the age of 70, as Chairman of the clan council, he still enthusiastically contributed ideas to the organization of the ceremony, from allocating funds for activities to the reward program for descendants in the clan who do well in promoting education and talent.

Mr. Binh and his wife both come from families with a tradition of studiousness. When he was young, he both studied and worked, participated in many advanced training courses, and was active in learning promotion activities at his workplace. He also participated in the work of the parents' association at school, gave ideas to build a learning promotion fund, regularly mobilized donations to help poor students and rewarded excellent students. Thanks to the care and guidance of his grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, all of his family members are diligent, good students, many of them are successful, contributing to the family's reputation. For many years, Mr. Binh's family has been honored by the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education as a studious family, a typical learning family nationwide. He shared: "I always keep in mind that if I want my children and grandchildren to succeed in their studies, my grandparents, parents, and family members must be shining examples, wholeheartedly caring for, encouraging, and supporting my children and grandchildren's studies."

Spread the spirit of learning

Not only Mr. Binh's family, but also generations of the Do family in Khanh Hoa have actively promoted the tradition of learning. Up to now, the family has 7 people with PhDs, more than 60 people with master's degrees, 145 people with bachelor's degrees, including those who work in education and teach at major universities. The family council currently has more than 500 members; the family's Education Promotion Committee, headed by Dr. Do Phi Phong, has gathered many dedicated members, built and developed an annual education promotion fund to carry out regular and effective education promotion work. Since the beginning of 2025, the fund has mobilized more than 65 million VND to award descendants in the family to encourage the spirit of learning. The Do Ba Ha family (Dong Ninh Hoa ward) also set up a fund for children to borrow money when they are admitted to university and repay it after graduation. The Council has updated and implemented policies and strategies on encouraging learning and talent to each member in a timely and comprehensive manner.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Mai - Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Association for Promotion of Education said: “100% of families in the Do clan in Khanh Hoa area are recognized as learning families. This is a testament to the pioneering role of the clan in building a learning society in the locality. With the learning tradition maintained sustainably through many generations, the clan has contributed to spreading the spirit of studiousness, strongly promoting the movement for promoting learning in the community”.
