In recent years, Vietnamese television has witnessed the appearance of a series of new formats (scripts) such as "Anh trai say hi", "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai", "Chi dep dap gio", "Em xinh say hi", "Gia dinh Haha"... bringing a breath of fresh air to the audience.

But before that, comedy game shows were the "fertile land" that created explosive attraction on television.

From around 2014 - 2019, comedy game shows became a "fever" with a series of programs covering all prime time slots.

In particular, the imprint of comedians is closely linked to the success of many programs, making them familiar faces that are difficult to replace. There are even times when audiences feel like "every time they turn on the TV, they see Hoai Linh, Tran Thanh, Truong Giang". They appear densely on all channels.

Before getting into a scandal related to the slow disbursement of charity money, Hoai Linh was considered the "entertainment king" of Vietnamese showbiz, covering all fields, from stage, television, game shows to cinema, and almost wherever Hoai Linh was, there was a guarantee of ratings and revenue.

During his heyday, Hoai Linh's name was associated with a series of famous programs such as "Oh my god, you're here!", "Sunday night secrets", "Comedy club", "Hidden singer", "Thousand pound dance", "Familiar faces kids", "Mysterious person"...

“Thank God, you’re here!” is a sitcom that has attracted audiences for 8 seasons, received 4 Mai Vang awards and ended in 2022.

The show brings together comedians from the North and South with a diverse cast of guest contestants who are showbiz stars.

In the position of head of department, Tran Thanh and Truong Giang are the “nightmare” of many guests because of their unpredictable juggling style and ability to change characters extremely quickly. Meanwhile, artist Hoai Linh was assigned the position of judge.

“Comedy Challenge” has been through 6 seasons and is one of the most popular TV game shows of the time. After a year of suspension due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the producer of “Comedy Challenge” announced the return of season 7 with many innovations, including the “replacement” of the entire old panel of judges Tran Thanh, Truong Giang and MC Ngo Kien Huy.

However, since the announcement in May 2021, the program has not returned yet.

During its broadcast from April 2015 to January 2020, “Comedy Challenge” brought laughter and entertainment to the audience. Each contestant has 1 minute to make one of the two judges laugh and win a cash prize in each round. The highest prize is up to 150 million VND.

The judging roles of Truong Giang and Tran Thanh in the show have become familiar "laughing trademarks".

Catching the hot trend of comedy game shows, Vinh Long Television launched “Laughing Across Vietnam”, a contest to find new comedians. Tran Thanh sat in the “hot seat” of this comedy show.

After the first season was released in 2015, “Laughter Across Vietnam” has many versions such as the artist version and the Comedy Club version. This is also the launching pad for many young artists who have become famous after participating such as Huynh Lap, Nam Thu, Le Duong Bao Lam, Mac Van Khoa, Puka, Gia Bao, Minh Du, Tuan Dung, Quang Trung...

In 2024, “Laughing Across Vietnam” is a rare name left in the comedy game shows on television. In the final season, the program was criticized as “bland”, the victory belonged to Miss Phan Thi Mo’s team.

Besides, television has many comedy game shows such as "Comedy Reunion", "Comedy Club", "Comedy Land of Vietnam", "Comedy Arena"... but now these shows have temporarily stopped broadcasting for many reasons.
