With a friendly, creative teaching style and the spirit of "learning while playing, playing while learning", Ms. Thoa not only helps students love History again, but also becomes an inspirational face loved by the online community.
The opportunity to sow letters
Born into a family with no teachers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoa, born in 1994, is currently teaching History at Hieu Tu High School (formerly Tra Vinh province, now Vinh Long province). Born into a family with no teachers, a small incident in her childhood planted in her the seeds of determination and love for letters.
When she was only two years old, an accident caused her to lose her left thumb. That sadness once tormented her parents, but then became the motivation for them to hope that their daughter would have a long-term attachment to knowledge and school. When choosing a major at university, her parents gently asked: "Do you want to be a teacher? No one in our family has pursued this career." That seemingly trivial question touched a deep corner of the young girl's soul.
Being a gentle person, not liking to compete, Thoa realized that she was not suitable for the fiercely competitive environment of economic sectors. Meanwhile, the teaching profession, with its tranquility and the meaning of cultivating knowledge, made her feel close. That decision opened a new journey, where she could live true to her gentle and devoted nature.
During high school, although she studied in the advanced A-level class (Math-Physics-Chemistry), her favorite subject and her best subject was History, a subject that many students at that time were afraid of. She still remembers clearly the feeling of getting a 10 in History for the first time, a simple but profound joy, which made her proud and wanted to learn more about the nation's past. "Perhaps it was from that moment that I truly 'fell in love' with History," she said.
More than ten years since entering the teaching profession, the flame of love for the profession and the subject still burns in the young teacher’s heart. Every day in class, she finds joy in the eyes of her students and historical stories are “revived” through each page of the book.

"Magic" to make students love History more
While for many students, the time to submit papers is often a “periodic fear”, in Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoa’s class, it is a moment filled with laughter. On the social network TikTok, she is affectionately called by her students by the nickname “Ms. Thoa the Witch” - someone who can “turn” boring tests into interesting games.
Her way of “calling destiny” made her students both nervous and excited. When the class size was 46, she immediately linked it to 1946, the year President Ho Chi Minh issued the Call for National Resistance, and so “the whole country resisted” and the whole class took the test together. Or on September 18, she mentioned September 18, 1976, the founding date of Da Lat city in Lam Dong province, and called all students with the last name Lam to answer the questions.
Not only creative in the way it relates to historical events, Ms. Thoa also uses many other forms such as "crocodile teeth examination", "asking for fortune telling", "odd-even lottery", "lucky number drawing"... Each lesson is a surprise, both fun and ensuring fairness, helping students reduce pressure but still seriously absorb knowledge.
Since I was an intern, I have wanted every lesson to be a joy. As a former student, I understand the pressure students feel. I do not want to be just a transmitter of knowledge, but also a companion, helping students see History as something close, Ms. Thoa shared.
Thanks to the method of “learning while playing, playing while learning”, her students are increasingly proactive and self-disciplined. They are no longer afraid of being called on, and even eagerly wait for their turn. The dry test hours have now become a light and exciting opportunity for review.
Ms. Thoa said that those unique ideas come very naturally. “Sometimes I just happen to see an object on the table, or a trend that is popular on social networks, and immediately think of a way to 'process' it to suit the lesson. The important thing is to make the students see that History is not strange at all.”
Ms. Thoa’s lessons not only make students love them but also receive support from colleagues and parents. “The principal is very encouraging, because he said that in a lesson, in addition to imparting knowledge, the important thing is to create excitement so that students can absorb it more effectively,” she said.
That creativity also helped her become a well-known face on social networks, but she still maintains a simple, sincere lifestyle. “Whether online or in real life, I am still Ms. Thoa to my students, the person who always wants them to improve, love their subjects and love life more,” she said.
In the future, she hopes to continue researching and innovating teaching methods, so that each lesson is not just about memorizing facts or numbers, but also helps students feel the national spirit and pride in history.
For young teacher Nguyen Thi Thoa, simple happiness is when students eagerly come to class, passionately learning about the history of their country. From her love for the profession, her dedication and creativity, she is contributing to renewing the way of teaching and learning, so that history is no longer dry pages of books, but a vivid story of today.
