Reporting at the seminar, Dr. Natalia Ivanova - Deputy Director of Vietnam - Russia International Eye Hospital said that amblyopia is a very common condition in Vietnam, especially in children with astigmatism.

In Asia, the rate of astigmatism in children is about 70-80%. The danger of amblyopia is that if not detected early when children are young, they will have permanent vision loss when they grow up and cannot be treated.

Dr. Vuong Anh Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health spoke at the seminar.

The cause may be due to the optical environment being affected such as early cataracts, corneal scars, congenital ptosis; or due to unstable glasses that need to be adjusted. The disease may also originate from late treatment.

Children with amblyopia need to be treated as soon as possible, the golden age is from 7 to 12 years old, otherwise there is a possibility of losing vision and difficulty in recovering vision. However, this disease is still quite unfamiliar, so Vietnamese parents are not fully equipped with knowledge to treat their children in time.

Currently, the Vietnam - Russia International Eye Hospital is the leading facility in treating amblyopia in Vietnam. Here, children will be directly examined by Russian doctors and given a treatment plan for each child. After that, children will participate in amblyopia training course with a high-tech equipment system, helping to improve vision after 10 training sessions.

Dr. Vuong Anh Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health said that with the development of science and technology, rehabilitation is increasingly proving its indispensable role in preventing disabilities, treating and rehabilitating, helping patients recover their health, and improving their quality of life.

Regarding eye rehabilitation in Vietnam, according to Dr. Vuong Anh Duong, it is currently underdeveloped. While eye rehabilitation helps treat cases of amblyopia and strabismus; helps maintain stable vision in cases of myopia, accommodation disorders, and prevents vision loss and blindness.

According to the representative of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, this is an important opportunity for us to learn more about the scientific and technological achievements of rehabilitation in the Russian Federation, especially in the field of eye rehabilitation.

“Compared to Vietnam, the Russian Federation is much ahead in rehabilitation work. Rehabilitation in Russia started in 1946, Vietnam started in 1980.

Therefore, Russia has been ahead of us for a while. Besides, the field of eye rehabilitation in Vietnam is not yet developed and we are trying to approach to gradually develop this field" - Dr. Vuong Anh Duong said.

The seminar discussed new advances and cooperation in developing technical expertise in rehabilitation in general and eye rehabilitation in particular between the Russian and Vietnamese Rehabilitation Associations, helping to improve the quality of life and restore health for people, especially for children with curable amblyopia.
