With Haaland's brilliance, Man City won all 3 points after defeating Everton 2-0 in round 8 of the 2025-26 Premier League. This result temporarily put Man City at the top of the table and extended their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 8 matches.
Everton travel to the Etihad with a tough task ahead of them as they face an in-form Man City side. Pep Guardiola's side have won their last two home games by three or more goals. Although manager David Moyes has lost all eight of his last visits to the Etihad, his side have still started with determination, making it difficult for the home side to find an early goal.
Everton even almost opened the scoring in the first half when Iliman Ndiaye's pass was slightly too far for Beto, causing the striker to miss the ball accurately near the post.

For Man City, clear-cut chances were few and far between in the first half. The two most notable occasions were Haaland's header hitting the crossbar, before Jeremy Doku's curling shot from the left was saved by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Man City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also made an excellent save before the break, denying Ndiaye's powerful shot, keeping the score at 0-0 before the second half began.
Everton's resilient defence held firm until the 58th minute, when Haaland once again showed his class. The Norwegian striker escaped his marker in the box, jumped high to head home a Nico O'Reilly pass.
Just five minutes later, Haaland doubled the lead with a low shot from Savinho's back pass, beating Pickford. The strike took Haaland's tally to 23 goals in just 13 games for club and country this season, and his sixth in five appearances against Everton.

The defeat was Everton's first away defeat in the Premier League by more than a goal since December 2024. However, the scoreline could have been worse had it not been for a series of late saves from Pickford, which prevented Haaland from completing his hat-trick. Everton have not won at the Etihad since 2010, while Man City's unbeaten run against Everton has now extended to 18 games, temporarily taking them top of the table.
