Henry Kissinger was seen as an unusually influential figure in global affairs under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. His power grew during the Watergate turmoil, when the diplomat assumed a co-presidential role as the ailing Nixon prepared to resign.

After leaving the US government , he founded Kissinger Associates, a consulting firm, and became a specialist in providing strategic advice to corporations, governments, and the public. At the age of 99, he still travels widely and writes books.
