DNO - The City People's Committee has just issued Official Dispatch No. 724/UBND-STNMT dated February 2, 2024 requesting the owners of A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6 and Dak Mi 4 hydropower reservoirs to operate and ensure water supply for Da Nang city during the Lunar New Year.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Da Nang City requested the owners of the hydropower reservoirs A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Dak Mi 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6 to organize the operation of the reservoirs with the flow and time of water discharge to the downstream of Vu Gia River in accordance with the inter-reservoir operation process on the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin issued in Decision No. 1865/QD-TTg dated December 23, 2019 of the Prime Minister .

To prevent the possibility of a decrease in the water level on the Yen River at the An Trach dam, leading to a risk of water shortage in Da Nang city during the Lunar New Year, the City People's Committee requested the owners of hydroelectric reservoirs to send the contact information of their units to coordinate to quickly and promptly handle issues related to water supply for downstream areas.

It is known that in recent days, Cam Le River water at the raw water intake gate to Cau Do Water Plant has been frequently heavily contaminated with salt, the highest being more than 706mg/l, 2.3 times higher than the allowable standard.

Salinity here is increasing due to rising tides and high waves due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, especially during the Tet holiday and the New Year holidays.

Danang Water Supply Joint Stock Company is operating two saltwater prevention pumping stations upstream of An Trach to bring fresh water from Yen River to Cau Do Water Plant and Airport Water Plant.

However, due to the impact of the operation of the works, the dams in the upper Vu Gia River and the An Trach dam system have been causing the water level of the Yen River to drop, especially in the early morning of February 5, down to 1.55m, lower than the minimum water level (1.6m) to operate the pumps of the old An Trach saltwater prevention pumping station.

Faced with that situation, the Department of Construction has directed the Technical Infrastructure Department (under the Department of Construction) to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, offices and units to monitor, guide and urge the Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company to ensure water supply for people before, during and after Tet, and promptly resolve water supply incidents.
