Office workers have a hard time going to work on God of Wealth day.

Returning to the office after Tet on God of Wealth day, many office workers are frustrated with having to endure traffic jams and brave the sun to get through crowds of people.

Leave the house at 6am

At 5am on February 19 (January 10), Thuy Linh (24 years old, living in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) woke up abruptly when the alarm clock rang. At the end of the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, Linh said that even though she didn't want to, she still had to wake up really early on the first day back to work.

Linh's house is more than 10km from the company. She usually leaves home at 7am to get to the company at 8am. But today, Linh decided to leave 1 hour earlier than usual. Moreover, because the first day back to work coincides with the God of Wealth's day, Linh cannot afford to sleep in even a second longer.

"When I first started working, I didn't think the roads would be congested again after Tet, so I arrived at the company very late, had my salary deducted, and didn't even receive my New Year's lucky money. This year, learning from experience, I decided to leave the house at 6am, to have breakfast on time and not be late for work," Linh confided.

At 6am, Linh started leaving the house, weaving through many crowded markets to get to work. Although she had anticipated this scene, she was still quite nervous when she had to "stand still" for more than an hour on the road because of people lining up to buy gold and snakehead fish.

Unlike Linh, Phuong Uyen (22 years old, living in District 12) had to text to ask to be late on the first day of work after Tet.

"It was really embarrassing and uncomfortable. I forgot that today was the God of Wealth's day, so I left home at 7am to have breakfast. At 7:30am, I started going to the company but was "held back" by the crowd when passing a market in Tan Phu district," Uyen said with a sigh.

The first meeting of the year started at 8am, but at 8:20am, Uyen was still inching her way down Tan Ky Tan Quy Street, where the traffic jam stretched for more than 1km. Unable to move forward or turn around, the girl shed tears as she had to "cut" the alley with... faith.

Hoping to escape the lethargy after Tet

Arriving at the company after the meeting had ended, Uyen shyly looked at her colleagues holding some red envelopes in their hands, while she was reprimanded for being late.

Not stopping there, because she had just graduated and had little experience, Uyen thought she only had to start working from today, so she had not prepared since last night. As a result, the female office worker was reminded when she had not sent a progress report to her superiors.

Sitting at her desk, Uyen's mind was blank because the "smell" of Tet still lingered. The female office worker hoped to soon escape the feeling of lethargy.

"The holiday is long so I'm still not used to the schedule. Maybe next year I'll leave my hometown and come to the city earlier to stabilize my mind. Not only that, I'll also wake up really early and get to work on time," Uyen said.

Not only are they tired when returning to work after a long holiday, many workers also feel pressured after spending all their savings for Tet.

Gia Bach (24 years old, living in District 4) said he spent more than 20 million VND of his savings on things like lucky money and shopping for his family and himself.

Bach shared that perhaps next year, he will ask the company to let him work through Tet so that his income will be tripled. After that, Bach will take Tet off when everyone has gone to work to avoid traffic jams and price increases.

"Many of my friends have chosen this method. Not only do they have a huge amount of extra income, but they can also enjoy a long vacation. Getting back into the swing of things will also be easier," Gia Bach said.
