A few days earlier, the mass food poisoning that sent 40 students to the hospital had caused great outrage among parents. Many opinions said that the management and operation of the school’s lunch meals by Vice Principal Do Thi Hong Hue lacked transparency and did not ensure food hygiene and safety.

Some parents said they would only send their children to school when the authorities concluded the incident and Ms. Hue was held responsible. Before that, Ms. Hue also went to Le Thuy District General Hospital - where the children were being treated - to visit them, but was chased away by the parents and refused to accept 1 million VND, the "milk and sugar" money from Ms. Hue.
Mr. Dang Van Duong, Chairman of Kim Ngan Commune People's Committee affirmed: "Who is right and who is wrong will be decided by the authorities. The locality's viewpoint is to handle it strictly, objectively, and absolutely not cover up, to ensure the safety of students and a healthy educational environment."

Meanwhile, the Quang Tri Center for Disease Control (CDC) has taken food samples at the school for testing and is still awaiting results.
