At the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival, the film "Glorious Ashes" won 5 important awards, including the Golden Lotus and Best Director for director Bui Thac Chuyen.
The award ceremony and closing ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival just took place in Da Lat city.
This year's Vietnam Film Festival is the one with the largest number of entries, with a wide variety of attractive film genres. Entries in the categories include 31 feature films, 82 documentaries, 23 science films, and 43 animations.
In the cinema category, 16 films were selected to compete, including Dat Rung Phuong Nam, Tro Tan Ngam Roc Roc; Em va Trinh; Nha Ba Nu; 578; 9; Co Gai Tu Xuc Xua; Con Nhót Mot Chong; Dao, Pho va Piano; Nguoi Vo Cuoi Cua; Nu Si Hong Ha, FANTI; Hoa Nhai; Ke An Danh; Me Oi, Buom Day and Muoi: The Curse Returns.
The most important Golden Lotus award went to The Glorious Ashes by director Bui Thac Chuyen. Receiving the award, director Bui Thac Chuyen became emotional when sharing the difficulties of filmmakers after the COVID-19 period.
"I still find it hard to believe that I am making this film after 10 years of not being able to make a film. Making a film is very difficult. After 2 years of COVID-19, the Vietnamese film production industry is even more difficult. Therefore, in order for the Vietnamese film production industry to develop strongly, I hope for everyone's understanding and support," he shared.
The movie "Glorious Ashes" won big at the 2023 Vietnam Film Festival.
Previously, Glorious Ashes was continuously nominated at many international film festivals and the 2023 Golden Kite Award for Best Feature Film.
In addition to the important award, Glorious Ashes also won 4 other awards including Best Cinematography, Best Music, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Le Cong Hoang. Glorious Ashes is also the film selected to compete in the 2024 Oscars.
This year, the 3 Silver Lotus awards went to Em and Trinh; Mom, Day Butterfly and Dao, Pho and Piano. In addition, Em and Trinh also won 3 other subsidiary awards.
In the category of Best Actor in a Feature Film, Thai Hoa was named for his role in the film Con Nhót Môt Chong . Due to his absence, actor Tien Luat took his place.
Meanwhile, Dinh Y Nhung and Mai Cat Vi both received the Best Actress award for their performances in Mom, It's Butterfly.
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture was awarded to singer and actress Bui Lan Huong (Em va Trinh).
"Em va Trinh" won 4 awards.
Director Victor Vu's last wife was named in the category of Best Art Design Artist.
The award for Best Screenplay went to Luu Huynh for Oh Mom, It's a Butterfly.
The award for Best Debut Director (feature film) went to Andy Nguyen for Fanti and the award for Best Visual Effects (feature film) went to The Girl from the Past.
The surprising thing about the 2023 Vietnam Film Festival, Southern Forest Land and Mrs. Nu's House - 2 film projects with "huge" sales but ended up "empty-handed".
The 2023 Vietnam Film Festival has 20 awards including the Golden Lotus, Silver Lotus, Jury awards in various categories and 24 individual awards, including the award for "Best Debut Film Director". In addition, the audience can vote for their favorite film in the "Panorama Program".
Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee will also present the Lam Dong - Majestic Highlands award to feature films participating in the Film Festival that are filmed in Lam Dong.
It is known that the jury consists of experts and film artists with prestige and high expertise. In which, the feature film jury will have 7 to 9 members, the documentary and scientific film jury (5 to 7 members), and the animation film jury 5 to 7 members.
According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the Film Festival will honor outstanding works and individuals, continue to be a bridge for cinematic works to reach the public, a bridge connecting cinema and tourism, creating great spiritual values and promoting economic development, especially in the context of the film industry recovering and transforming strongly after the pandemic.
