Sciatica

Sciatica patients are often prescribed painkillers, physical therapy, and acupuncture by doctors. Patients can apply ice packs for 20 minutes at a time, massage, practice yoga, and avoid standing or sitting for too long.

Bursitis

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that reduce friction between tendons and bones. When these sacs accumulate too much fluid, they become inflamed and cause pain. They can also affect the hips, making sitting uncomfortable.

Sitting hunched over, crossing your legs, leaning to one side, or sitting on an uneven surface can put pressure on your hips, leading to hip pain when sitting. Performing hip stretches and yoga poses can help relieve tension in your hip muscles.

Piriformis syndrome

The piriformis muscle is a flat muscle located above the buttocks, next to the hip joint. Piriformis syndrome occurs when this muscle becomes irritated and contracted, thereby compressing the sciatic nerve, causing pain or numbness in the buttocks, hips, or legs.

To relieve pain and prevent piriformis syndrome, exercise regularly and maintain good posture while sitting, driving, or standing. Stand up, walk, or do stretching exercises when sitting for long periods of time.
