Every Green Sunday, the Youth Union and people of Don Dien Hamlet, Ninh Thoi Commune, Cau Ke District carry out cleaning activities and collect plastic waste on Provincial Road 915.
Currently, facing increasing pressure from climate change (CC) and waste pollution, especially plastic waste, in recent years, Tra Vinh has proactively implemented many synchronous and effective activities to raise public awareness, improve infrastructure and build environmental protection models, towards sustainable development; in particular, through the New Rural Construction movement, many positive results have been achieved from socio-economic development to the environment.
Tra Vinh province is gradually modernizing the waste treatment system, through infrastructure investment, conversion of waste treatment technology and prioritizing modern treatment, increasing reuse and recycling in accordance with the spirit of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020. Currently, there are 02 waste treatment plants in operation in the province; 10 landfills have been built in localities; 05 incinerators with a capacity of 330 - 600kg/hour have been invested in districts, contributing to reducing landfills and 01 factory is preparing to be built...
In the propaganda and education of environmental protection laws, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (now the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) has organized many large-scale communication activities in the events commemorating World Environment Day. In 2024, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the Provincial Ethnic Committee, the General Department - Ethnic Committee to organize training courses to raise environmental protection awareness for 954 delegates who are civil servants, organizations, and prestigious people.
In localities, the role of religious organizations and unions has been promoted in propagating environmental protection; on-site waste treatment... with widely replicated environmental protection models such as: the model "Residential areas and religious establishments participate in environmental protection, responding to climate change"; the club "Veteran Environment in hamlets and quarters", "Joining hands to build new rural areas". The Women's Union has models such as "Family garbage pit", "Clean alley", "Women classify waste", "Green - clean - beautiful roads", "5 no, 3 clean" club, Khmer Women's Club with 3 clean criteria, the model "Rice grains from plastic bottles, aluminum cans", women's groups limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic.
Through associations and unions, many bright, green, clean and beautiful rural roads have been implemented, contributing to building a green and sustainable environment.
According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tra Vinh, in order to classify and collect household waste, the unit has supported 03 communes of Tap Son, Phuoc Hung and Tan Hiep (with 450 participating households) and 10 Khmer Theravada Buddhist worshiping establishments, supporting 180 240l garbage bins, divided into 06 locations/pagodas (03 bins/1 location, classified by 03 colors for garbage classification). Building 05 plastic-restricted garbage stations in Tan An, Dai Phuc communes (Cang Long district), Ninh Thoi (Cau Ke district); equipping 202 household waste bins for Cang Long and Cau Ngang districts...
In particular, in agricultural production, the province has supported localities in arranging 2,358 tanks for storing used pesticide packaging in agricultural areas and on traffic routes to facilitate collection by specialized vehicles. Collection and treatment are carried out in accordance with Joint Circular No. 05/2016/TTLT-BNNPTNT-BTNMT and Inter-Department Instruction No. 01/HDLS-STNMT-SNN-PTNT.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Currently, the province is focusing on implementing the work of classifying waste at source (implemented according to Plan No. 81/KH-UBND, dated July 30, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee). In particular, domestic solid waste is divided into 03 main groups: easily decomposable organic waste; waste that can be reused and recycled; remaining waste that is difficult to treat. The treatment process follows the instructions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Official Dispatch No. 9368/BTNMT-KSONMT, dated November 2, 2023 on technical instructions for classifying domestic solid waste at source.
The results achieved in recent years show the great efforts of Tra Vinh province in environmental protection. Thanks to the participation of the entire political system and the active response of the people, the province is gradually building a clean living environment, sustainable development, contributing to the implementation of the green - clean - beautiful goal in both urban and rural areas.
