Phone suddenly lost signal, be careful of SIM card being taken and money lost
If your phone suddenly loses signal, does not receive OTP code or notifies you to change SIM without request, you are most likely a victim of "SIM hijacking" scam.

According to Proofpoint, SIM swapping is a form of cyber attack that allows criminals to take control of a user's phone number by impersonating the subscriber to apply for a new SIM. Once they have the number, hackers can receive all calls, messages and OTP codes, thereby illegally accessing banks, e-wallets or social networks.
According to the FBI, in 2021 alone, more than 1,600 people were attacked in this form, causing damage of up to 68 million USD. The most recognizable sign is that the phone suddenly loses signal even though it is still working normally or does not receive an OTP code from the bank.
If you receive a SIM card change notification without your request, contact your carrier immediately to check, as your number may have been hijacked. Once the SIM is controlled, users not only lose access to their accounts but also risk having their money withdrawn, personal information exposed, and being impersonated to scam others. Security experts recommend setting a PIN code for the SIM, not publishing the phone number online and using authentication apps instead of OTP via SMS.
Early detection of unusual signs and proactive data protection is the most effective way to avoid becoming a victim of this increasingly sophisticated SIM hijacking scam.
