According to Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong, Director of Tue Tinh Hospital ( Hanoi ), Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Anorectal Surgery, in reality, the treatment has received patients with necrotic infections, even having to have artificial anus placed due to hemorrhoid treatment at facilities that do not meet professional requirements, or treatment based on unofficial information shared on social networks.

"Properly indicated sclerotherapy for hemorrhoids will help patients avoid the risk of having to have hemorrhoidectomy surgery," Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong said at a scientific conference on advances in the treatment of anorectal diseases held on October 11 in Thanh Hoa.

According to Dr. Le Manh Cuong, there are currently non-surgical hemorrhoid treatment methods: using drugs, injecting sclerotherapy into hemorrhoids. The choice of treatment method depends on the stage of the disease, associated pathologies, the patient's condition, the equipment and facilities of the treatment facility, and especially the experience of the doctor. At Tue Tinh Hospital, hemorrhoid treatment is combined with traditional medicine, helping to increase treatment effectiveness, reduce inflammation, and help shrink hemorrhoids.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong added that in non-surgical hemorrhoid treatment methods, sclerotherapy is effectively applied. Sclerotherapy is injected directly to block the blood vessels that nourish the hemorrhoids, causing the hemorrhoids to not receive blood and gradually shrink. Sclerotherapy is a method that is less painful, has fewer complications, does not require hospitalization, and is a simple and easy technique to perform. However, this method needs to be performed by an experienced doctor to avoid complications such as bleeding and infection. Diagnosis and treatment of hemorrhoids must be diagnosed and treated by a specialist at the hospital. Absolutely do not treat hemorrhoids based on unofficial information on social networks.
Dr. Cuong also noted that in the anal canal, hemorrhoids have the function of "closing" the anus. When they lose their function due to infection, when hemorrhoids prolapse outside, they need to be treated, but the first priority is internal medicine, shrinking the hemorrhoids. Only when hemorrhoids are severe and cannot be treated with internal medicine is hemorrhoidectomy indicated. The rate of hemorrhoidectomy has been decreasing in recent years, currently at about 10% of cases requiring treatment.
Doctor Cuong emphasized: Diagnosis, treatment effectiveness and reducing the risk of recurrence depend a lot on the expertise and experience of the doctor. The cost of medical treatment is about 7-8 million VND compared to 30 million VND if hemorrhoid surgery is required. "Income" can also be the reason for over-prescribing hemorrhoid surgery.
