Accordingly, patient Huynh Phuc H. (71 years old) was hospitalized with severe pain in the eye socket and left forehead.
The patient had been treated at many eye and neurology clinics for more than three months but there was no improvement. The symptoms became more and more severe, forcing the patient to constantly bow his head and hold his forehead in pain.
After examination and maxillofacial CT scan at Quang Nam General Hospital, the doctor discovered a solid mass in the left frontal sinus spreading to the ethmoid sinus.
The surgical team decided to operate through an incision outside the frontal bone - a complex technique that requires high precision. During the surgery, the doctor removed the entire large, black-green mass of solidified fungus that occupied almost the entire sinus area.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tien, this is a rare disease and difficult to diagnose because the lesion is deep and can be easily confused with neurological or eye diseases.
After surgery, the patient recovered quickly, no more headaches, clear vision, walking normally and no longer having to close eyes and bow head like before.
Currently, the patient's health is stable and continues to be monitored at the ENT Department.
