With the characteristics of non-communicable diseases having silent, persistent, and less acutely painful manifestations and symptoms, many people are often subjective. Most patients are already seriously ill when they are diagnosed. This is the reason why non-communicable diseases become a health burden for patients and society. Therefore, screening, early detection, and good management at the grassroots level will be the best way to support patients and the community.

At Dam Ha Medical Center, as of September 2025, more than 2,000 people have been admitted for diabetes examination. Worryingly, many patients discover the disease when complications have already occurred, making treatment difficult and increasing medical costs. Doctor Le Thi Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of the Examination Department, Dam Ha Medical Center, said: In the past, diabetes was often found only in the elderly, but now it is increasingly occurring in younger people due to inappropriate lifestyles, such as: Eating a lot of fast food, sweets, high fat, little exercise... At Dam Ha Medical Center, we have discovered many cases under 40 years old with this disease, even many patients have had a bad turn.
With the motto of prevention is better than cure, Dam Ha Medical Center has actively implemented many screening programs, managed non-communicable diseases and promoted communication to raise community awareness. At the same time, providing medical services to the community, from organizing screening for hypertension and diabetes to managing electronic health records for each patient. Doctors and nurses not only examine and treat but also advise on diet and exercise to help people change their lifestyle to prevent diseases more effectively.
Quang Ninh is one of the localities that has early implemented synchronous solutions to prevent non-communicable diseases. Currently, the whole province has organized screening for tens of thousands of people and is managing more than 63,900 patients with high blood pressure and 26,100 patients with diabetes. 100% of commune and ward health stations in the province have staff in charge of the non-communicable disease program. Of which, all implement hypertension management; nearly 40% of stations have implemented diabetes management and treatment. This approach helps detect early, ensures patients are continuously monitored, limits complications and improves quality of life.

In order for people in remote, border and island areas to promptly grasp information on non-communicable diseases, the health sector has promoted health education and communication in various forms, suitable for each locality. Health centers coordinate with local authorities and organizations to organize mobile communication, radio broadcasting, and direct consultation in villages and hamlets; integrate non-communicable disease prevention content into community activities. In addition, medical staff and doctors also go directly to people's homes to measure blood pressure, check blood sugar, guide how to recognize early signs of abnormalities in the cardiovascular system, diabetes, cancer and guide appropriate diet and exercise regimens.
With efforts in the treatment of non-communicable diseases, the Quang Ninh Health sector has been gradually controlling risk factors, reducing the rate of new cases and improving the quality of life for people. In the coming time, the provincial Health sector will continue to promote early screening, treatment management at the grassroots level, and enhance the application of information technology in monitoring people's health, aiming at the goal of all people receiving comprehensive health care right from the community.
