The hot and humid weather in Shanghai has left many players exhausted and forced to retire early. Djokovic recently became the latest victim, having suffered a worrying moment against Jaume Munar.
In the match, Djokovic had a good start when he won the first set 6-2. But in the second set, Djokovic lost 5-7. Notably, after finishing the last ball of the second set, the Serbian legend appeared very tired and lay on the court for at least 30 seconds.
Referee Mohamed Lahyani and the tournament physiotherapist quickly arrived to check on him. They helped him onto a chair and took his blood pressure to confirm he was fit to continue.
Djokovic was then given a pill.
Returning to the game, Djokovic was stronger and quickly finished off his opponent in the third set with a 6-2 victory.
With this victory, Djokovic has qualified for the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals.
At 38 years and four months, he is the oldest player ever to reach the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 tournament, breaking Roger Federer's record by two months.
