Chinese gaming team 'played dirty' to beat Vietnam

The match between NIP and MVKE ended in discontent among the fans. Even the Chinese fans could not agree with the way their team won.

On the afternoon of October 8, the second day of the League of Legends Asia Invitational 2025 (ASI) took place online. The match between MVKE (Vietnam) and NIP (China) became the center of debate in the eSports community. Losing 2:1 to a top team competing in the LPL (Chinese championship) was not necessarily a disaster for the representative from Vietnam.

However, the way NIP won was not convincing. Specifically, at the 29th minute of the deciding game, the two teams had a big fight in the target area. Suddenly, MVKE members had a connection problem. As a result, the jungler and mid laner were eliminated. Immediately, the match was paused.

However, ASI is a friendly tournament organized online, there is no option to handle when either side has a connection problem. High-level professional League of Legends matches often support “roll back”, with the condition of competing on a local LAN.

Despite the loss, the Vietnamese team had to accept it. However, after the match resumed, NIP's actions caused a reaction from the community. The Chinese representative immediately rushed in to take the big objective thanks to the advantage of more people. After that, they increased the speed and ended the match, winning 2:1.

Chinese fans considered this a shameful match for NIP. This team played without fair play spirit, taking advantage of the opponent's mistakes. Combined with JDG's 0:2 loss to GAM not long before, the representatives of this country's League of Legends became the target of criticism.

League of Legends Asia Invitational 2025 (ASI) is a tournament organized for Asian clubs (Korea, China, Vietnam) to participate. Invited teams include teams that do not have tickets to the League of Legends World Finals. Therefore, it does not have much meaning in terms of achievements. However, the prize money of up to 80,000 USD makes all sides seriously participate in the tournament.

The two Vietnamese teams participating in the tournament were GAM and MVKE. On the first day, these representatives both lost when facing strong opponents.
