In dialogue with farmers, Hai Duong Chairman talks about 'unexpected' results

Chairman of Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau, this afternoon (November 26) organized a dialogue with 351 farmers, representing more than 392,000 members and farmers in the whole province. The conference has the theme "Arousing potential, promoting advantages, supporting farmers to connect, cooperate, develop agriculture, and sustainable rural economy".

At the dialogue, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau assessed that Hai Duong's agricultural production has developed in the direction of large-scale concentrated commodity production, applying high technology, intelligence and organic.

Hai Duong is a typical locality in agricultural production in the country with many advantages, and is the 5th province recognized for completing the task of building new rural areas.

Representatives of more than 392,000 members and farmers across the province attended the dialogue.

Recalling the losses in agricultural production during the historic storm and flood last September, the Chairman of Hai Duong province acknowledged the resilient efforts of farmers in the province. Hai Duong farmers have overcome difficulties and quickly restored production.

In the first 9 months of 2024, the total product in the province is estimated to increase by 9.3% over the same period last year, exceeding the set target. The total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production is estimated at 16,905 billion VND, up 3.2% over the same period last year.

"This is a great effort of farmers, the results are beyond expectations," Mr. Chau emphasized.

The Chairman of Hai Duong Province said that he had just taken up a new position and was still unfamiliar with many things. Today’s meeting was an opportunity for him and the provincial leaders to learn and understand more about agricultural production and the thoughts of local people.

Granting growing area codes, building sustainable brands

There were 12 opinions from farmers and leaders of the farmers' association sent to the leaders of Hai Duong province. The opinions mainly focused on policies to support agricultural development, build rural economy and build sustainable agricultural product brands.

Hai Duong farmers want support for digital transformation and branding associated with tourism.

Many farmers hope to receive support in digital transformation, granting growing area codes, tracing origins, promoting and building agricultural product brands associated with eco-tourism.

The recent storm No. 3 caused problems for a number of irrigation works and dykes. Farmers expressed their desire for investment, upgrading and maintenance policies for these works.

Currently, a large area of ​​agricultural land in the province has been reclaimed, and a number of farmers have had to move to other occupations. Therefore, there are questions about what policies the Provincial People's Committee has for vocational training and labor training to meet new job requirements. At the same time, it is recommended that the province supplement capital to solve the employment problem for farmers.

In response to farmers' proposals and recommendations, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau requested relevant sectors to remove difficulties and obstacles to support people and restore sustainable agricultural and rural development.

In addition, it is necessary to continue to pay attention to consolidating and perfecting the organization, apparatus, and staff of the association at the grassroots level, building a team of prestigious, responsible, and experienced branch staff. Promoting the role of farmers as the main subject in developing agriculture, the rural economy, and building new rural areas.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau commended the spirit of overcoming storm No. 3 and competing in good production.

The Chairman of Hai Duong province also requested all levels to support farmers in digital transformation according to objective practical requirements, building the value chain of production, processing, consumption and trading of agricultural products. Focus on improving the quality of vocational training for farmers and rural workers. Support farmers in establishing enterprises, cooperatives, production and business establishments, building a circular high-tech agricultural model associated with sustainable community tourism development.

He assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province to absorb the opinions at the dialogue conference to continue researching, consulting, and proposing appropriate new solutions and policies.

The Department of Industry and Trade needs to play a good role as a link between the government, scientists, businesses and farmers. The Department of Science and Technology guides and supports farmers in applying science, technology and high technology in production.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment advises on organizing and implementing the measurement, establishment, and correction of cadastral maps to serve land registration and issuance of certificates of agricultural land use rights after land consolidation, creating large fields and specialized areas with high economic value for local people.
