Thai ethnic people happily celebrate Independence Day

In our country, in addition to the Lunar New Year of the whole country and the traditional New Year of each ethnic group, some ethnic groups such as Mong, Thai, Tho, Muong, Van Kieu, Ta Oi… also celebrate Independence Day on September 2nd very grandly. The National Day of the whole country therefore becomes a joyful and meaningful day in the lives of the ethnic groups of Vietnam.

Independence Day (September 2) is an important holiday of the year for the Thai ethnic group in the Northwest and Nghe An and Thanh Hoa regions. In the western districts of Nghe An such as Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, etc., the Thai people celebrate Independence Day as big as the Lunar New Year. This is an occasion for the people to express their gratitude to the Party and Uncle Ho for regaining independence and freedom for the nation.

Many children of the village work far away, and on this occasion also return to their hometown to celebrate Independence Day.

As the National Day approaches, the village roads and alleys are cleaned by the locals, preparing the stage for cultural activities and sports fields. In the Thai villages, in the days leading up to the Independence Day, people decorate their houses from inside to outside. The national flag is hung along the village roads and alleys.

Joy and happiness are always reflected on the faces of each villager. After the village’s common work, family members gather together to clean the house, carefully prepare the altar and Uncle Ho’s picture, prepare a tray of five fruits to offer to Uncle Ho and his ancestors, and then choose straight bamboo trees to hang the Party and national flags.

During these days, all farming and horticultural work of the villagers is temporarily suspended, giving time for activities to celebrate Independence Day. This is also the time for villagers to visit and congratulate each other on good health, good luck in business and gather around the feasts.

Independence Day (September 2) is an important holiday of the year for the Thai ethnic group in Nghe An province. Most ethnic communities here celebrate Independence Day as big as the Lunar New Year. The Independence Day celebration usually starts from the evening of September 1, lasts until the end of September 2 and is organized depending on the economic conditions of each family. During and after the Tet party, there are also cultural performances such as singing on streams, singing love songs... or traditional games such as throwing con, walking on stilts, dancing on bamboo poles... People encourage each other to learn new ways of doing business; and advise their children to study hard.

Independence Day not only contributes to preserving and transmitting unique cultural beauty, creating values ​​in the culture of the Thai ethnic group, but above all, this is one of the ways Thai people teach their children to remember the important day of the whole country, to be grateful to the Party and Uncle Ho.
