“Godmother” connects loving hearts

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - “Having a place to return to is home. Having people to love is family. Having both is happiness”. Family is a spiritual support, a place to nurture the soul and personality of each person. There is nothing happier than a home with both a father and a mother. However, society still has children who do not have that precious support. Sharing and understanding, officers and women members of the Investigation Security Department, the Provincial Police Women's Union have accompanied and sponsored 72 orphans.

The godmothers of the Women's Association of the Security Investigation Department gave gifts to Luong Thi Ngoc Lan, Quy Loc commune.

Implementing the "Godmother" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and Plan No. 37 dated February 8, 2022 of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Police Women's Union, the Women's Union of the Investigation Security Department has connected and adopted orphans. A journey in which every step is marked by the eyes, smiles and tears of disadvantaged children who are ready to be protected by the "mothers" of the Women's Union of the Investigation Security Department.

Luong Thi Ngoc Lan, from Quy Loc commune, has a very special situation. Her mother passed away when she was not yet 1 year old. Her paternal family did not acknowledge her. Her maternal grandmother was the one who raised her but passed away a few years ago. She lived with her grandfather, but he had a mental problem and was not capable of raising her. Therefore, she grew up in a lack of not only material things but also love and family warmth. Sympathizing with her situation, through the introduction and connection with the Women's Union of Yen Dinh district and the Women's Union of Quy Loc town (old), the Women's Union of the Investigation Security Department has sponsored her for the past 4 years. Every month, the unit provides cash support of 500,000 VND for Ngoc Lan to study; On holidays, New Year, and the beginning of the school year, groups of people come to visit, give gifts, and encourage their children to study hard, be good, and guide them with housework and personal hygiene. Although they don't have much time to meet, each time they visit, the mothers take the time and stay longer to talk and encourage their children. Every time she comes, Ngoc Lan calls the godmothers "mother". That call is not only compensation for the disadvantages but also the desire to feel the warmth of a child who has suffered a lot.

Ngoc Lan is one of many orphans in need who have been adopted by the Women's Association of the Security Investigation Department. They did not get to choose where they were born, but in return they received sympathy and love from those around them and from the community. Sometimes it was a notebook, a package of cakes, a set of clothes; sometimes it was words of encouragement and advice... All of that love and sharing brought warmth to the orphans, helping them feel the love of a family, although not related by blood, but full of humanity.

Over the past 4 years, the Women's Association of the Investigation Security Department has not only provided material support but also been a support for orphans and children in especially difficult circumstances to rise up in life. From 2022 to now, the unit has sponsored 72 orphans in difficult circumstances and has provided more than 700 million VND in support. Sponsorship is calculated in stages and some children will be sponsored until they are 18 years old. This humane work has brought out the image of a "mother" - a beautiful People's Police soldier in the hearts of the people. "Godmother" is no longer a political task but a connection of hearts and human humanity.
