Last week, Quoc Thao Stage performed two plays of "Fiery Fields" which attracted a large audience. This is one of the plays that evokes national pride and reminds us of the sacrifices of generations of fathers and brothers who sacrificed for independence and freedom.
Spread the spirit of charity
Ho Chi Minh City is determined to develop the cultural industry as one of the pillars of the creative economy . Ho Chi Minh City has provided funding for socialized art units to bring political plays to the audience. People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, said: "After the success of the first Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival - 2024, political plays imbued with historical breath and humanistic values have stepped out of the festival framework to reach a large audience. Ho Chi Minh City has promoted a promotion program and provided funding to bring these works closer to theatrical life, so that suburban audiences can enjoy the artistic creations that a team of dedicated artists have created."
Accordingly, the four gold medal-winning works include: "The Last Dream" (Hoang Thai Thanh Stage), "Comrade" (Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association), "Fire Field" (Quoc Thao Stage) and "The Great General Duc Le Van Duyet - The Man with 9 Death Sentences" (IDECAF Drama Theater). Each play will have 5 free performances for the public at the following venues: An Dong Ward Cultural and Sports Service Center (former District 5 Children's House), Hong Lien Theater, Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater and Hoang Thai Thanh Stage.

This is a practical step so that political works are not "shelved" after the festival but continue to live in artistic life, spreading the spirit of humanity and praising the heroic feats of the Southern army and people in the resistance war.
More motivation to contribute
Director Quoc Thao excitedly said: "The state's financial support is a big boost for socialized theaters, helping them make more efforts in serving the public." Director Ton That Can, Permanent Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, also expressed his joy: "This support proves that the state sees the lasting value of political theater and accompanies artists on the path of creativity. The play "Comrade" was recently performed for international exchange in Busan - Korea, was awarded the Creativity Award, and now being promoted is a joy, helping the team of artists who are members of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association have more motivation to contribute."
From the producer's perspective, producer Huynh Anh Tuan (IDECAF Drama Theater) emphasized the honor that the historical play that won a medal at the festival is now being brought to serve suburban audiences: "We not only perform the play at the festival but also bring it to the audience directly and receive sympathy. This gives artists more strength to stick with the profession."
Artists assert that this policy is considered a true "midwife" for the socialized theater - both preserving artistic values and meeting the needs of the public. Audiences in Ho Chi Minh City also have the opportunity to enjoy major plays right on stage and meet their idol artists, something they have long only seen on the small screen.
The live viewing atmosphere helps the audience "live" with the characters, feel the tragic breath of history and the stirring of each dialogue and emotion. This strategy is considered "popular with the people and artists", because it both preserves the values of political art and arouses the love of the stage in the audience.
In particular, actors who won gold and silver medals felt proud when their roles continued to shine instead of being "covered up". Not stopping there, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association proposed expanding the promotion model for works that had just won awards at the National Professional Theater Festival on "The Image of the People's Public Security Soldier" for the 5th time - 2025 in Hanoi , including: "Deep Night" (Quoc Thao Theater), "Another War" (Hong Van Theater), "Sugar-Coated Bullet" (Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema Association) and "Emotional Reunion" (Truong Hung Minh Art Theater).
Insiders expect these political plays will also be performed for free in Ho Chi Minh City, continuing to bring political drama closer to the audience.
According to experts, with the support of the state, political drama is entering a new development cycle: both affirming its educational role and aesthetic orientation and becoming an indispensable spiritual food in community life. This is a vivid demonstration of a humanistic way of doing culture so that art truly belongs to the people.
