Farming experience tourism in Duong Lam ancient village attracts international visitors

Experiencing agriculture for a day as a farmer is one of the tourism products that is attracting many international visitors to Duong Lam Ancient Village (Son Tay town, Hanoi). Visitors can visit the ancient village heritage combined with agricultural experiences, enjoy cuisine, explore the cultural values ​​of the heritage, and experience agriculture in the ancient village. Head of the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Relics Nguyen Dang Thao said that Duong Lam Ancient Village is associated with the agricultural lifestyle, is a destination that attracts many domestic and foreign visitors. In order to develop sustainable tourism, the Ancient Village Management Board has built experiential tourism products with many types: Professional experience (making candy, making soy sauce, making cakes), agricultural experience (going to the fields to plant, harvest, grow crops and activities related to the agricultural lifestyle), experience in creative spaces. In particular, the agricultural experience product creates a high impression, suitable for international visitors and students of international schools in Hanoi. Mr. Nguyen Dang Thao said that this time is suitable for agricultural experience products because the weather is cool, it is the planting season. Meanwhile, foreign visitors are very interested in learning about the agricultural life of the people of Duong Lam Ancient Village, wanting to learn and experience plowing and planting rice with their own eyes. The Ancient Village Management Board arranges farmers in the village to demonstrate plowing and planting rice for visitors. Visitors can participate in the experience, playing the role of farmers directly planting rice. To organize the experience for visitors, the Management Board coordinates with the Farmers' Association, Women's Association, and Youth Union to participate in the chain. Farmers in the village are the ones who directly guide the production materials such as the fields and crops they are growing. After visiting the Ancient Village heritage in the morning, experiencing agriculture in the afternoon, the Management Board guides visitors to participate in cooking traditional dishes and enjoy traditional meals of Duong Lam in ancient houses or the village's cultural space. In the evening, visitors can participate in cultural and artistic activities in the village. The next morning, visitors can watch locals grilling pork and go to the local market. The two-day package tour helps to enhance the experience for visitors and keep them staying in Duong Lam longer.

On March 26, Indochina Heritage Tourism Services Co., Ltd. organized a group of 46 international visitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Japan to experience being a farmer in Duong Lam Ancient Village. The visitors experienced plowing and planting rice and were all excited and enthusiastic. It is known that from the effect of Duong Lam Ancient Village being honored as "ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product 2024" (in January 2024), the group learned about the award and booked a tour to visit and experience the Ancient Village. Head of the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Monuments Nguyen Dang Thao said that while in the past, the agricultural experience tour in Duong Lam Ancient Village was mainly chosen by international schools for students to participate, now international visitors also love this product. Instead of providing services at the request of the groups, the Management Board of the Ancient Village has built it into a product and proactively provided it to travel agencies and schools. Since the beginning of the year, the Management Board has organized more than 30 groups to experience agricultural activities in the Ancient Village. In the coming time, the number of visitors booking tours to visit the Ancient Village heritage associated with the experience is expected to increase. The Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Relics aims to develop sustainable tourism products associated with the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritages./.
