World- leading growth rate

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism , after suffering heavy losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam's tourism industry has risen strongly, becoming one of the bright spots of the fastest recovery in Southeast Asia. Vietnam is assessed by the ASEAN Secretariat as the country with the highest tourism recovery rate in the region, reaching 98% compared to before the pandemic.

In particular, according to the latest report of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), in the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam's tourism growth rate reached 21%, among the highest in the world.

In the first 8 months of 2025, the tourism industry welcomed nearly 14 million international visitors (up 21.7% over the same period in 2024), served 106 million domestic visitors, and total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 707,000 billion. Vietnam has also continuously improved its position in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Tourism Competitiveness Report.

Speaking at the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2025 ceremony, held on the morning of September 27 in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh assessed that Vietnamese tourism has clearly positioned the national brand on the global tourism map.

According to him, these achievements did not come naturally, but were the result of an arduous and steadfast journey; a sustainable development strategy, focusing on service quality and cultural values; a spirit of decisive action to promote digital transformation and build a smart tourism ecosystem.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2025 ceremony is a moment to honor the "brand ambassadors" of Vietnamese tourism; to affirm the pivotal role of tourism businesses in the country's economic development, making an important contribution to enhancing the position and image of Vietnam in the international arena.

“You are the ones who turn intelligence and smiles into value, turn experiences into brands, and turn potential into strength,” he said.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Pham Ha, Chairman of Lux Group, a unit in the Top 10 international travel companies that welcome tourists to Vietnam, said that Vietnam's tourism has grown strongly thanks to the opening of many international flights to source markets such as India, Eastern Europe, Milan (Italy), Munich (Germany), so connecting international tourists to Vietnam is easier. In addition, there is a friendly and open visa policy; infrastructure changes.

Objectively, competitors in the region all have their own problems, so this is also an opportunity for Vietnamese tourism.

Every customer journey contributes to growth

Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh said that 2025 is a year of special importance, with the GDP growth target reaching 8.3-8.5% and creating a foundation for growth in 2026 to reach 10% or more. This requires the tourism industry to develop more strongly to contribute more, striving to welcome at least 25 million international visitors, 150 million domestic visitors, and total revenue exceeding the one-quadrillion-VND mark.

He noted that to realize that goal, the tourism industry needs to continue to accelerate, innovate, promote digital transformation, build a smart tourism ecosystem so that tourists can experience Vietnam in the best way; develop green tourism, community tourism, associated with night-time economy and circular economy models so that each journey is not only a discovery but also a contribution to the country's economic development.

In addition, it is necessary to build and enhance a system of tourism products imbued with national identity, unique, creative, professional, and of outstanding quality to affirm: Vietnam is an attractive, safe, civilized, and friendly destination.

According to Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the goal of welcoming 25 million international visitors in 2025 is a big challenge, requiring high determination, including the participation of localities and businesses.

He particularly noted the role of travel businesses in strongly applying technology to promote more online sales in many market segments, coordinating with airlines to open more direct flights connecting new destinations, charter flights to emerging markets with high growth potential such as India, Russia, Australia, the US...

From now until the end of the year, we need to concentrate our efforts and focus on attracting visitors to destinations with a lot of potential such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City... Connecting parties from transportation, entertainment, building new products from culture, night tourism, entertainment, bringing profound experiences for visitors to stay longer. At the same time, increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of Vietnam tourism through major events on culture, music, golf, trade fairs...

From a business perspective, Mr. Pham Ha suggested that in order to welcome more than 2.7 million visitors per month from now until the end of the year, the Government needs to expand the visa-exempt visitors, give away domestic air tickets, and overnight stays for visitors... From there, we can hope for a breakthrough in the number of visitors from source markets, especially crowded markets like India and China...

He also said that even if the target of 25 million international visitors is not reached, if revenue increases by 30%, it will still be a positive result for Vietnamese tourism.

The Vietnam Tourism Awards are organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to honor outstanding tourism businesses, organizations and prestigious educational and training establishments. The awards are held every five years.

This year, the Vietnam Tourism Awards honored 113 outstanding businesses and units in the tourism sector in 11 award categories with 18 titles. In addition, the award also honored the best green hotels such as: Ana Mandara Cam Ranh, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, InHotel de L'Opera Hanoi, Silk Sense Hoi An Hotel, Cuu Long - Majestic Saigon, Azerai La Residence Hue Hotel, H'mong Village...

2.75 million international visitors/month: Huge pressure, can we 'sprint' to reach the finish line in time? To achieve the Government's target, from now until the end of the year, Vietnam tourism needs to welcome at least 2.75 million international visitors each month. The pressure and challenges are huge, the tourism industry is racing hard, can we reach the finish line in time?
