Especially when the world economy is still growing slowly and since the first months of this year, the US has changed its tariff policy, continuing to create fluctuations for economies around the world, including Vietnam.

Despite many difficulties, with the efforts of the whole industry, in the first 6 months of the year, agricultural export turnover reached 33.5 billion USD, up 14.3% over the same period in 2024. Of which, agricultural products reached 18.3 billion USD, aquatic products 5 billion USD, forestry products 8.7 billion USD. However, some key products such as rice and vegetables decreased in turnover.

It is forecasted that in the last 6 months of the year, total export turnover could reach 31.6 billion USD, down 4.8% compared to the same period in 2024, equivalent to a decrease of about 1.6 billion USD in case the US maintains the current reciprocal tax rate.

To reach the export value target of 65 billion USD set this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires maintaining exports and maintaining and stabilizing traditional markets, exploiting and redirecting potential markets; making the most of tax breaks, balancing the trade deficit from the US market; taking advantage of every opportunity to boost exports...

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has proposed a series of solutions from expanding markets, diversifying products, and taking advantage of incentives from 17 bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment proposed that specialized agencies proactively coordinate with localities in the northern border area to monitor, update, and forecast the situation of goods circulation in the area to ensure vehicle regulation, limit congestion, and affect goods export in the last months of the year.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment believes that authorities need to continue to take drastic actions to maintain exports in traditional markets and supplement suitable product lines, and add some product groups that can increase exports in potential markets.

In particular, products with room for growth such as coffee, cashew nuts, shrimp, fish, and specialty fruits continue to receive support for trade promotion and process standardization to meet the strict traceability and quality requirements of the US, EU, and Chinese markets. At the same time, potential markets such as the Middle East, ASEAN, and South America are also being actively exploited.

The Ministry also requires localities to proactively prepare qualified raw material areas. build growing area codes and packaging facilities to ensure supply for export. Enterprises need to flexibly change market orientation, focus on deep processing, increase added value to compete better in the context of rising tax rates and logistics costs.
