Green startups contribute to elevating Vietnamese brands

In the green transformation process in Vietnam, startups are making significant progress in building environmentally friendly technological solutions, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development.

From agriculture to fashion, from listed businesses to young startups, the green startup scene in Vietnam is increasingly diverse.

Practical effectiveness

Determined to create a sustainable clean food supply chain, over the past 14 years, GC Food has not only built a market from quality products, but also succeeded in deep processing, elevating Vietnamese agricultural products. Chairman of the Board of Directors of GC Food Joint Stock Company Nguyen Van Thu said that resources cannot be wasted. Things that are thought to be no longer usable can also be processed to return them to the earth's rotation.

With that perspective, GC Food has supported hundreds of farming households to practice agriculture, towards green and sustainable growing areas. Currently, GC Food has grown strongly, expanded its international market and become a typical enterprise in business associated with community and environmental responsibility.

Meanwhile, Ms. Doan Thi Kieu Van has nearly 10 years of experience in the field of chemistry and cosmetic research. A few years ago, she decided to quit her job to build the BIOQ vegan cosmetics brand using ingredients from dragon fruit peel. The project was developed in Lam Dong with a dual goal: creating safe beauty products while contributing to solving the problem of "good harvest, low price" for farmers in Binh Thuan .

Ms. Doan Thi Kieu Van shared that the product not only brings benefits to consumers but also contributes to creating income for farmers. BIOQ's first product is a skin care mask launched in 2023. Up to now, the project has expanded to other product lines such as facial cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. The project has a total investment of 1.2 billion VND with a profit of 10%/year.

With the Rangfarm project, Mr. Le Trung Thu has contributed to solving the output for apple farmers in Phan Rang ( Khanh Hoa province), while aiming for sustainable business.

With an annual apple output of more than 60,000 tons, farmers in Phan Rang often face the risk of agricultural products being discarded, causing great waste. Rangfarm's solution is to use 100% local green apples to produce naturally fermented apple cider vinegar. In particular, the project applies a circular economic model: Apple pulp after being pressed for juice is fully utilized to make tea, organic fertilizer, animal feed or pectin extraction. Thanks to that, the production process has no waste.

On the social side, Rangfarm not only ensures stable output and increases the value of farmers' products, but also creates jobs for local workers and disadvantaged women. Annual profits are contributed to the orphanage fund. On the environmental side, the project prioritizes the use of local materials and reusable packaging, contributing to reducing pollution and building an environmentally friendly value chain.

Many support solutions for projects

According to Vu Kim Anh, Deputy Director of the Center for Business Research and Enterprise Support (NGO), for green startups to break through, capital sources and support policies must play a key role. Young entrepreneurs also want to access investment funds to develop professional projects, bringing environmentally friendly products closer to consumers.

In recent times, the Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Enterprises and the Center for Business Research and Enterprise Support have accompanied projects, supported products that meet State standards, and helped young businesses export. Along with that, many domestic and international trade promotion programs have been implemented to expand the market for green startup products.

Enterprises are supported to attend international fairs… to learn from foreign experiences in product development. In addition, direct connection programs with buyers help projects introduce products more effectively. The Center for Business Research and Enterprise Support regularly takes enterprises to Thailand, Korea, China, and organizes domestic fairs and small markets suitable to the project's capacity. These activities aim to ensure sustainable product development and effective market access.

"We not only organize the competition but also carry out many continuous support activities such as: specialized training, seminars, providing knowledge on financial management, business management, production standards, packaging design, and support in perfecting products according to GAP standards... Projects that make it to the semi-finals are guided on how to present to investors and the jury, improve their ability to persuade and introduce products effectively...", Ms. Vu Kim Anh said.

In the coming year, the program will focus on promoting organic production enterprises and stepping up trade promotion so that projects have more opportunities to access international markets.

With the support from units and organizations, it is hoped that the green startup journey of businesses will contribute significantly to building the country's green economy.
