FIFA supervises Vietnamese referees practicing VAR

VTC NewsVTC News14/06/2023

On the morning of June 14, a 90-minute real match with the participation of U19 Hanoi will be held at Hang Day Stadium. This is a simulated match within the process of training referees using VAR technology organized by VPF, VFF with the supervision of FIFA.

Vietnamese referees begin to practice VAR technology.

This is the first time Vietnamese referees have directly participated and practiced using VAR technology in a full-length real match. In the process of training referees to use VAR technology, this is stage 3c with the most difficult team. Only when referees meet the requirements and are licensed can VAR technology be applied in V-League.

FIFA supervises Vietnamese referees practicing VAR - 1

Vietnamese referees enter an important training phase.

The session was supervised by FIFA expert Bhaveshan Moorghen. The three referees assigned to practice in this first session include main referee Mai Xuan Hung, VAR referee Duong Huu Phuc, and VAR assistant Le Vu Linh. In addition, three referees and assistant referees from the Hanoi Referee Board will participate in supporting the match.

During the last training session, some referees completed a sufficient number of exercises in training steps 3a and 3b with low and medium difficulty (5 vs 5 matches of about 10 minutes and 11 vs 11 matches of about 30 minutes).

According to the roadmap, the class members will continue to complete training steps 3a and 3b, and move on to training step 3c scheduled from June 16, ensuring that each Referee must participate in training at an unofficial match. The entire practice process is recorded (both on the field and in the VAR car) and sent to FIFA daily.

Responding to VTC News, VPF General Director Nguyen Minh Ngoc said: " This third training course is especially important, deciding the time to deploy VAR in Vietnam. With careful attention and preparation in terms of logistics, VPF hopes that the 18 referees and assistants attending this first VAR training course will pass FIFA's testing and evaluation steps so that the VAR application plan can soon be included in national professional football tournaments in the near future ."
