Manager Dyche, with his pragmatic style and ability to motivate his team, could be the key to Forest's season salvage. |
Amid the crisis, Nottingham Forest are accelerating their search for a new manager after sacking Ange Postecoglou after just 39 days in charge. According to sources at The Athletic , Sean Dyche – the former Everton manager – has emerged as the frontrunner, while Roberto Mancini appears to have been ruled out of the race.
On 18 October, Forest announced the sacking of Postecoglou just 18 minutes after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground, marking the shortest record for a permanent manager in Premier League history. The Australian was appointed in September to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, but has only picked up one point from five Premier League games, leaving Forest in 18th place in the table.
Olympiakos and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis led the process of recruiting a new manager, assisted by global sporting director Edu Gaspar and advisor Giannis Syrianos. Dyche, 54, is considered a “perfect fit” for the current squad, the club’s culture and the urgency of the situation. A former Forest player, Dyche lives close to the City Ground and has long-time assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone – both former Forest players from the club’s last European campaign in 1995/96.
Dyche's experience in helping Burnley and Everton avoid relegation also makes him an ideal choice to steady the ship in the midst of a storm. Negotiations with Dyche are in their final stages, and Forest are expected to sign a contract until 2027. The deal could even be completed this week, allowing Dyche to take charge of the Europa League clash with Porto on October 23.
