Previously, a 15-month-old patient residing in An Hoa commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An) was taken to the hospital by his family in a condition suspected of swallowing a screw into his stomach.

According to the child’s father, on the evening of February 5, the child was playing with two screws. A while later, the child’s parents discovered that only one screw remained. Suspecting that the child had swallowed the screw, the family immediately took the child to the hospital for examination.

After taking X-rays and ultrasounds, doctors determined that the child had swallowed the screw into his stomach. Immediately after, doctors performed a procedure to remove the foreign object under anesthesia. After 15 minutes, the endoscopy team successfully removed the 5cm long screw from the child's stomach.

Doctors said that fortunately the child was discovered and treated promptly. Otherwise, the foreign object could have moved down to the intestines, causing many dangerous complications such as intestinal perforation, bleeding, etc., and the surgery would have become much more complicated.
