Promoting historical and cultural potential in tourism products

Identifying tourism as a key sector, aiming for sustainable growth, Dong Thap province focuses on improving the quality of traditional historical and cultural tourism products, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit, research, and contribute to socio-economic growth.

According to Dong Thap Provincial Museum, the locality currently has a total of 295 ranked historical and cultural relics, including 4 special national relics, 34 national relics associated with the names of national heroes, historical and cultural events that have been put into exploitation, developing tourism associated with educating local revolutionary traditions.

Outstanding historical relics such as: Rach Gam - Xoai Mut relic in Kim Son commune, associated with the glorious victory of national hero Nguyen Hue in the war to destroy 50,000 invading Siamese troops in 1785; Tomb and temple of national hero Truong Dinh; Royal Tomb (Son Quy ward), the birthplace of virtuous Queen Mother Tu Du (Tu Du); Temple of Thu Khoa Huan (My Tinh An commune); Long Hung communal house - the place marking the Southern Uprising in old Tien Giang , now Dong Thap province; Oc Eo - Go Thanh archaeological relic, Cho Gao commune...

In particular, the uprising sites of National Hero Truong Dinh in Dong Thap province include: Truong Dinh's tomb and temple (Go Cong ward); Truong Dinh temple, the dark leaves (Gia Thuan commune), Dinh pond (Tan Dong commune); Phao Dai rampart (Phu Tan commune)... have been ranked as special national monuments according to Decision 694/QD-TTg dated July 18, 2024 of the Prime Minister.

In addition, the historical site of the tomb of Vice-Chancellor Nguyen Sinh Sac, Cao Lanh Ward, Dong Thap Province has just been ranked as a special national monument according to Decision 1959/QD-TTg dated September 11, 2025 of the Prime Minister. This relic site is the resting place of Vice-Chancellor Nguyen Sinh Sac, the father of beloved President Ho Chi Minh. This relic site complex includes: tomb and tomb dome, lotus pedestal, exhibition house of images and artifacts about the life of Nguyen Sinh Sac; photo gallery about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh.

Mr. Vo Pham Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, said that the above-mentioned relics are increasingly attracting a large number of tourists, contributing to the formation of eco-tourism tours and routes in the garden area, attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

To promote the potential of local cultural and historical tourism, Dong Thap province has carried out activities to introduce and promote local tourism products and images, and has paid attention to exploiting new tours to attract tourists through the connection and organization of travel agencies inside and outside the province. Cooperation and association activities have been increasingly expanded and become more practical. Travel agencies have proactively built tours, routes and expanded the tourism market between Dong Thap and other regions in the country.

Thanks to that, in September 2025, Dong Thap province is expected to welcome 400,000 tourists, of which 42,000 are international visitors. In the first 9 months of 2025, Dong Thap tourism will welcome more than 5 million visitors; total tourism revenue is estimated to reach more than 3,000 billion VND.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap, Vo Pham Tan, said that with its rich and diverse potential, advantages in natural resources and rich cultural history, Dong Thap province is becoming an attractive destination. The reasonable exploitation of tourism potential combined with visiting historical and cultural relics will create conditions for Dong Thap tourism to develop sustainably.

The Department continues to advise the Provincial People's Committee to implement the Resolution of the Provincial Party Executive Committee on developing Dong Thap tourism in the period 2026 - 2030 and complete the tourism product "Journey to the Land of Pink Lotus to visit the heritage land".

The Department strengthens investment promotion, prioritizing high-quality, environmentally friendly tourism projects and destinations with development potential; promotes professional promotion and advertising, focuses on digital transformation and information digitization to develop a smart tourism ecosystem.

Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong emphasized that in the 2025 - 2030 term, the province has identified tourism as a key sector, creating a "push" for tourism to transform dramatically in the local economic structure. To do that, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism must consider improving the quality of Dong Thap province's tourism products in terms of traditional, historical and cultural tourism, spiritual tourism, experiential tourism, environmental conservation, etc. In addition, the provincial tourism industry also needs to closely connect with other sectors in investing in transport infrastructure, accommodation, typical products, environmental conditions, and local identity.
