As of April 1, 8 districts, towns and cities in Hanoi have announced the project to rearrange ward-level administrative units for the period 2023-2025 to collect public opinions. According to the guidance of the Department of Home Affairs, the name of the new administrative unit is considered based on the tradition, culture, customs and practices of the locality, with priority given to using the existing names of the administrative units before the rearrangement or used during the formation and development process.
Specifically, in Hai Ba Trung district, 7 wards are arranged into four: Part of Cau Den ward is merged into Thanh Nhan ward, named Thanh Nhan ward; part of Cau Den ward is merged into Bach Khoa ward to form Bach Khoa ward; Quynh Loi and Bach Mai become Bach Mai ward; Dong Mac and Dong Nhan become Dong Nhan ward.
In Thanh Xuan district, Thanh Xuan Nam ward and Thanh Xuan Bac ward merged into Thanh Xuan Bac ward; Kim Giang ward and Ha Dinh ward merged into Ha Dinh ward.
In Ba Dinh district, Nguyen Trung Truc ward and Truc Bach ward merged into Truc Bach ward. Because the name Truc Bach is associated with the historical process and the name of Truc Bach sub-area before included the current Nguyen Trung Truc ward.
Ha Dong district merged 3 wards Quang Trung, Nguyen Trai, Yet Kieu into Quang Trung ward.
Hanoi announced the names of communes and wards after the merger.
Dong Da District, Kham Thien Ward and Trung Phung Ward became Kham Thien Ward; part of Nga Tu So Ward merged into Khuong Thuong Ward, named Khuong Thuong Ward; part of Nga Tu So Ward merged into Thinh Quang to become Thinh Quang Ward; part of Trung Tu Ward merged into Phuong Lien to become Phuong Lien - Trung Tu; part of Trung Tu Ward merged into Kim Lien to become Kim Lien Ward; Quoc Tu Giam and Van Mieu to become Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Ward.
Long Bien District, merge part of Sai Dong ward into Phuc Dong ward to form Phuc Dong ward; merge part of Sai Dong ward into Phuc Loi ward to form Phuc Loi ward.
In Son Tay town, the three wards of Le Loi, Ngo Quyen and Quang Trung were merged into one, named Ngo Quyen ward.
Ung Hoa district is the locality with the largest reduction in the number of communes in the administrative unit arrangement when 14 communes were merged into 5 communes. Specifically, Vien Noi, Vien An, Hoa Son communes were merged into Hoa Vien commune; Cao Thanh, Son Cong, Dong Tien communes were merged into Cao Son Tien commune; Hoa Xa, Van Thai, Hoa Nam communes were merged into Thai Hoa commune; Luu Hoang, Hong Quang, Doi Binh communes were merged into Binh Luu Quang commune; Tram Long, Hoa Lam communes were merged into Tram Long commune...
In this reorganization, according to the criteria of area and population, Hanoi has 173 communes, wards and towns. However, due to the characteristics of national defense, security, historical and cultural traditions, urban development speed and economic development level, the city proposed a plan to reduce about 70 administrative units at commune, ward and town level.
The round of public consultation on the project to rearrange ward-level administrative units and approval by the People's Councils of districts, towns and cities is expected to be completed before April 10.
The Department of Home Affairs will compile and build the project dossier, report to the City People's Committee to submit for comments from the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee. The City People's Committee will then submit to the City People's Council to hold a meeting to issue a Resolution approving the policy of rearranging administrative units before May 15, so that the City can complete the dossier to send to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government Steering Committee, to be completed before May 31 .
