Water levels of rivers and lakes in northern communes have decreased significantly.

After the water level on Cau River and Nang River peaked yesterday, this morning the water level has decreased significantly and limited flooding in the downstream area. In addition, large reservoirs such as Nam Cat Lake are operating safely, without any improper water discharge affecting the downstream area.

According to the Thai Nguyen Province Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 12 hours, flood levels on rivers in the North have decreased significantly, and by this morning were all below alert level 1. On the Cau River, at Pha Bridge, the flood peak yesterday (September 30) reached 132.4m, and by this morning (October 1) it had dropped to 130.85m, a decrease of 1.55m.

At Thac Gieng, the water level decreased from 96.92m yesterday afternoon to 96.25m this morning, 0.25m lower than alarm level 1, or a decrease of 0.67m. At Cho Moi, the water level also decreased from about 56m yesterday to 54.31m this morning, 1.69m lower than alarm level 1.

On the Nang River, at Ba Be, the flood peak on the evening of September 30 was 157.02m, this morning it was 156.20m, down 0.82m and 0.30m lower than alert level 3. In fact, the amount of rain last night and this morning in the upper reaches of the rivers has decreased, the water level has receded significantly compared to yesterday. However, due to the sufficient water accumulation, the risk of flooding in the lower reaches is unavoidable.

Nam Cat Reservoir, the water level at 9am this morning (October 1) has decreased by nearly 1m compared to yesterday, lower than the normal water level of 8.15m. (Photo taken at 9:30am on October 1)

Currently, dams in the northern communes still ensure proper operation, without water accumulation or discharge.

In particular, at Nam Cat reservoir, the water level at 9am today (October 1) has decreased by nearly 1m compared to yesterday, lower than the normal water level of 8.15m. This is the largest reservoir in the Northern region, with a capacity of 12 million cubic meters. Before storms No. 9 and No. 10, the management unit released water to maintain, repair and ensure the safe water level of the reservoir. Therefore, during this flood, the water level of Nam Cat reservoir is very low, so there is no flood discharge affecting the Cau River and downstream areas.
