On October 14, the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Vietnam Rowing Federation coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong to hold a press conference to inform about the 2025 Asian Rowing Championship.
Attending the meeting were Ms. Inas Hussein - Development Director of the World Rowing Federation; Mr. Liu Dehai - President of the Asian Rowing Federation; Mr. Edy Suyono - Technical Supervisor, Chairman of the Event Committee of the Asian Rowing Federation; Mr. Nguyen Hai Duong - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Rowing Federation.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong informed that the tournament will take place from October 16-19, at the Hai Phong City Boat Racing Center.
The tournament was attended by 678 members, including international officials, leaders, heads of delegations, coaches and athletes from 18 countries and territories: India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and host country Vietnam.

Athletes will compete in 20 events for both men and women, promising to be dramatic, attractive races with high professional quality, bringing new records and raising the standards of Asian Rowing.
For Vietnamese and regional athletes, the tournament is a valuable opportunity to compete with strong opponents, gain experience, and improve professional achievements.
In particular, the tournament is also an important preparation step for participating in upcoming major sporting events such as the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand and the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan.
Within the framework of the tournament, many sideline activities will also be organized such as cultural and culinary tours of Hai Phong for athletes and international guests, contributing to spreading the image of a friendly Vietnam, rich in identity and ready to integrate.
“This is the first time Hai Phong has been chosen to host the Asian Rowing Championship. The tournament is not only a sports competition but also an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its role and responsibility in international integration. At the same time, it affirms that Vietnam is a reliable destination, capable of hosting major events, meeting strict international standards,” said Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai.



Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Liu Dehai - President of the Asian Rowing Federation highly appreciated Hai Phong City in preparing for the tournament in terms of facilities, environment and friendly people.
He explained that Hai Phong (Vietnam) was chosen to host the tournament because the Hai Phong Rowing Center was evaluated by international experts as an ideal location because it has a clear river and clean water source, ensuring the best criteria for organizing the tournament.
“We hope that after hosting this tournament, we will raise the level of organizing major tournaments, regional and world-class in Hai Phong City. This is also an opportunity for athletes from other countries to know about Hai Phong, Vietnam and an opportunity for the locality to promote its image, culture and tourism to international friends,” said Mr. Liu Dehai.
