Dozens of schools in Ha Tinh devastated by storm Kajiki as new school year approaches

On the morning of August 26, many teachers of Mai Phu Kindergarten (Mai Phu commune, Ha Tinh ) came to inspect the school and could not help but feel saddened by the scene of chaos and destruction caused by the recent storm Kajiki.

Ms. Phan Thi Bao - Principal of Mai Phu Kindergarten said that the storm completely blew away the corrugated iron roofs of 8 classrooms and functional classrooms.

In addition, 4 main doors and 4 windows were damaged. The outdoor playground system lost 2 ball houses and a 2-story slide.

“Before the storm, the school had prepared very carefully. Toys and teaching equipment were placed high up so they were not affected much. As for the roof, windows, and outdoor playground, everyone was heartbroken this morning,” Ms. Bao said sadly as the new school year was about to begin.

According to statistics from the Principal of Mai Phu Kindergarten, the damage caused by the recent storm to the school could amount to more than 500 million VND.

Son Loc Kindergarten's roof was completely blown off.

Storm Kajiki also caused heavy damage to Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted: 350m of fence collapsed, roof was blown off, playground, glass doors, trees, and lights were damaged. Damage was over 2 billion VND.

Preliminary estimates from the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training show that about 130 schools and centers in the area were damaged by storm Kajiki.

Of which, 40 preschool schools were affected with total damage of up to 456.29 billion VND. 16 primary schools were damaged with damage of about 3.4 billion VND. 21 secondary schools were affected, with total damage of about 356.56 billion VND. High schools were also significantly affected with 44 damaged schools, total damage of about 19.112 billion VND.

In addition, 9 vocational and continuing education centers in the area were affected with an estimated loss of 850 million VND. In the secondary and college sectors, 5 schools were affected with a total loss of about 1,336 billion VND.
